Didn't get to rate it but agree with 3's.

The "Break Away" clip with BBs dressed in different clothes (not the white suits) made me like the song. Everybody looks cool. Slimmer Carl. Al, Mike groove along. Carl sings it with face lit with joy. But it's really nice anyway. 3.5 rounded to 4.

Today's song is Break Away.

Another fantastic BB 45 that never made it to an album. The stack-o-vocals is truly magnificent. Five.

Today's song is Break Away.

Best song Reggie Dunbar ever had anything to do with, haha. But seriously, what an awesome and crackin' tune this is. It should've been on an LP. I'd be more than happy to replace Tears In The Morning with Break Away on Sunflower. Great leads by Brian, Carl, Al and Mike. I was thrilled when Brian answered my question here at Smiley about this song ("what part or parts did your father contribute to this song?" which he answered "the lyrics... he got the idea from the Joey Bishop talk show..." He mentions it in his book too but he said it here at Smiley first!)

Break Away = FIVE

Today's song is Celebrate The News.

Fantastic vocal goings-on on this joyous B-side. And a brilliant build-up, from the waltz-like opening bars to the rollicking tag. A classic deep cut. Five.

Today's song is Celebrate The News.

Almost like Dennis goes acid rock...sorta. It's an awesome complex song with cool tympani in the fade out. I wonder what 'news' Dennis was celebrating? The end of his relationship with Capitol or Manson perhaps? "I got news for you, there ain't no blues..." I dig the song! FIVE!

"Celebrate The News" - Dennis' gem. 5.

Sloop John B itself is a extraordinarily great track, but its B side, I think was, Summer Means New Love is just nice, unlike other four I mentioned, which have great songs on each side.

Today's song is Soulful Old Man Sunshine.

Why did it take so long to release this amazing song? Like almost 30 years? Surely the flubbed line Carl sang could've been fixed ("soulful old man Shun-shine").

Rick Henn did a fine job arranging and producing this gem. It's catchy, energetic, jazzy and gorgeously sung. FIVE!

Thumbs Up

CF is great folk song. I'm glad BBs selected it to sing. Naturally, the lead is by Al. As Al is my favorite BBs singer, it's 5.

Today's song is Cotton Fields single ver.

If the cool album track sneaks up on you, Al's 45 version immediately grabs you by the lapels.

A great single that curiously charted everywhere except in the US. Love that pedal steel!

Five.

As I mentioned before when we were discussing the 20/20 LP, both versions of this song get FIVE from me. Classic Al!
