Deleted by Idiot Me! Mistook John Wetton for Greg Lake. My apologies to true King Crimson fans.

I was in the front row for a KC concert during their "Larks' Tongues" era. The lights were out as the piece gradually swelled from pianissimo and as the first big chord exploded, on went the lights and there was John Wetton standing in front of me!

What a concert (Jamie Muir was there too). What a bass player----and violinist.

I think my favourite JW moment is in "Starless", the passage beginning just after 4:20:

Rest in peace, sir.

Sigh. And so soon after Greg Lake. Sad

JK, I couldn't agree with you more. "Starless" was John's greatest highlight of a great career, his halcyon moment as a singer, a composer (the sublime main melody is his) and bassist. The buildup he does with Bill Bruford in the central section is simply jaw-dropping.

Another fantastic performance by John (crank up the bass to fully hear what he does here, practically a long solo under the song):

Please notice also the unmistakable flute by another great ex-King Crimson, Ian McDonald.

is another interview where he discusses the impact our guys had on him. Indeed, at a fan convention in 2002 he performed GOK.

Sad news.

A few weeks ago, Wetton announced that he wouldn't be touring with Asia on their tour with Journey.  But, I didn't realize the situation was so dire.

That first Asia album, which turns 35 this year, is an amazing prog/rock/pop album.
