Found an article from a 1966 Ithaca NY newspaper that discusses how, en route to their Nov 22 1966 Ithaca College concert, the BBs stopped in Trumansburg, NY to meet Robert Moog and personally discuss his melsinar that they'd used in Good Vibrations.  Interesting info.

Wow. Pity that article is nowhere online...

There's a letter from soon after (see 1966 in the link below) that mentions the Boys wanting to order a second Melsinar (a word I'd never seen before now!).

The technical term we are more familiar with is "woo woo machine."

There was an article and interview with Walter Seer over a decade ago in TapeOp magazine that I remember posting to the old SmileShop or whatever incarnation of that forum it was in, where Seer described how the BB's stopped in to see him about getting a road-ready Theremin to tour but not being able to play the real thing...so Bob Moog come up with this solution for them.

Nice to see a period article about that same episode with Seer and Moog turn up, the whole episode is one of my favorite bits of history/trivia from that amazing time. How the Beach Boys became among the first rock bands to tour with a "Moog" instrument...a necessity created by Brian Wilson's incredible song that was set to be featured on tour.

Imagine...developing an instrument for the purpose of playing *one song* live in concert. Good Vibrations indeed.

Maybe that's why Brian used it on Wild Honey - then they can play it on TWO songs in concert!!
