Recently, iv'e been on a big Monkees binge and listened to all albums through Changes (1970). These guys, mostly like The Beach Boys after Smile, had the talents but did not always chose the best songs on their albums. So, from The Birds, The Bees and The Monkees (1968) through Changes (1970), I reconstructed these albums with a few pointers in mind:
1- Michael Nesmith's songs would be a big presence on these albums, like he was on Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd (1967).
2- Peter Tork would stick for one more album (Instant Replay) and Mike Nesmith for Changes (1970).
3- In this alternate discography, the actual "Changes" LP would be released in 1970 as a "Dolenz & Jones" LP during the same year as Nesmith's Magnetic South.
4- I will admit that I am not the biggest Davy Jones fan but he does some good jazzy, Broadway-style tunes or Curt Boettcher-esque ballads (I swear I could hear a Sagittarius version of Time and Time Again!).
All tracks are sourced from the deluxe editions of The Birds, The Bees and The Monkees, Head, Instant Replay, Present, Changes, and all 3 volumes of the unreleased tracks compilation Missing Links.
