Dear friends and fans -

I happen to have the 1997 boxed set (who here doesn't?) and am contemplating buying the 2016 set. Now, I need some advice, taking into account that:

(1) I am not particularly interested in live versions of numerous PS tracks;

(2) the Blu-Ray disk is not a decisive purchasing argument for me;

(3) so I am left with points like pure sound issues, and questions like: does the newer box have unique and hitherto unreleased session tracks and suchlike, to ponder before making my decision?

Thanks in advance, Lt. Columbo The Heartical Don.

I was like you in that I wasn't sure the need to buy it, but two things convinced me otherwise. The semi-complete Good Vibrations, and the CATP master of Pet Sounds. It is to my ears, the best sounding version of Pet Sounds I have. I o not regret the purchase at all. The live tracks are a nice bonus.

I have not bought the new release, I'm pretty darn happy with the 97' box, while the CATP mix of Pet Sounds
is probably more pleasing, but I have that with the 50th vinyl release.
You'd probably be better off with the 2CD version, that way you'll have Carl's mix, and the bonus songs also  Smiley

I'm confused...so if I go buy the new 2 cd disc set I will have the C&TP Version of "Pet Sounds" (I'm assuming the mono mix)?

yup! and the bonus live tracks as well.
it's actually a better deal, if you already have the 97' box set.

there are a couple of pieces new to the new boxset, while they are great, I don't believe it is worth
purchasing the whole lot again for a couple of pieces, especially when you can download them if
you like them.  Even AGD settled on the 2Cd set  Roll Eyes

Thanks! As all of us know, each new serious BBs re-release is soooooo tempting - but on the other and, I still can't print my own money, despite all fine technology in 2016.

Moreover, I happen to have the CATP mix on vinyl, and that is a joy to listen to.

I think I know what I'll wil do...

Oh, before I forget: cheers to everyone who replied to my opening post!

This year has been so weird for me that I forgot there was a 2016 PS boxed set, and I own it, along with the 96 one.
