A few issues that came up on this.

1 - "The single largest case of fraud in music history, but no one knows about it" is Mike and the lyric credits from the 60's, according to Jim Hirsch. And according to him, that stands as one of the most alarming things about the history of the group, apart from the drug and alcohol abuse and the Wilson brothers' self-destruction...the most alarming being the betrayal that went on in the group, the history that has been swept under the rug. Mike not receiving credit or compensation for the songs and that being swept under the carpet.

The case was settled, Mike got his compensation and credit in the courts over 20 years ago and has been reminding people of that ever since. Who doesn't "know" about it at this point among fans? Mike got what he was seeking, he got the compensation and credit he went to court for.

Why prolong something that was settled 20 years ago?

I'd also opine that some of the bigger "tragedies" apart from Mike not getting lyric credit until the 1990's would include the deaths of Dennis and Carl.

2 - There was a segment later in the podcast where Jim Hirsch brings up Mike admitting his mistakes, and says "It's all there" in the book. Among the most notable things not in the book or in the interviews is the 2005 lawsuit which Mike filed and lost, complete with Mike's opinions of Brian and Al as of 2005 contained in the transcript. I have to ask after listening to roughly 3-4 hours of Hirsch's interviews online does Jim even know about that 2005 lawsuit or was it something that is simply left out of the history deliberately?

I'd also ask why there isn't much if any current discussion of Mike's brother Stephen and his own estrangement from his brother Mike.

3 - The mention of Maureen Love as a primary and valuable source for the book, along with Jeff Foskett, Scott Totten, and John Stamos. A previous podcast interview had Jim Hirsch saying Maureen (and Stan) couldn't get to Brian. No mention of that now.

4 - The current opinion from Jim Hirsch regarding Brian, drugs, and tying it into Smile seems to go back to drugs. Specifically, the opinion that the tragedy for fans from that specific era is what more would Brian have done musically had he not dropped acid, smoked grass/hash, etc?

I'd say a pretty decent number of fans would also have asked what if Brian's cousin and other key players have showed a little more support at key moments in the mid to late 60's? If one is a tragedy, promoted as "the" tragedy of that whole saga, what about the other underlying issues? Again, there are numbers of fans who might have wanted that to be asked and explored - and it may or may not have been as key of a factor as going back to "the drugs".

5 - The recording stream cuts off at the end just before the question is answered about what place this book will hold in terms or telling the Beach Boys' history. I'd like to hear the answer to that.

The world needs a solid BB podcast, but this is going to remain obscure until it can be made available as a download on iTunes. What's stopping you?

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

A BB podcast that cuts through the bullshit would be awesome. Howie Edelson's Beatles podcast woild be a great model.
