I can't hear how the music is a downer either. it's full of positive energy. I guess it's because it starts in a minor key.  But it is consistently uplifted and emphasized to the relative major. Musically it mirrors the lyrics. Brilliant of Lennon to do that. Seems weird to write off a song because it contains one minor chord. Anyways, I detect that you are getting irritated. If that is the case, I apologize. I just enjoy discussing these songs and the difference in opinions.
I am generally annoyed when I have to repeat myself when I state black & white this & that, get misquoted etc. Everybody would. Like you, I enjoy discussing difference in opinions. Petula Clark's hit "Downtown" is in major. Yet the way I perceive it is sad song. "Anytime at all", likewise, doesn't sound, to me, joyful. Ditto John's lead. My opinion is qualified & educated as I listen to Beatles since 2010. To these ears, it's been downer. I stand by it.

Would have to go with Anytime at All. Don't think it's a "downer" but musically it's not as interesting as the others.
(If it had been on the previous album I would have considered it one of the best. But AHDN is an album full of great songs, and this is a good song)

AHDN was definitely a leap forward and competition on this album is much steeper.

Things We Said Today

My two unquestionable least favorites are Im Happy Just To Dance With You and Things We Said Today. Once they are gone, I'm stuck. Im a little surprised to see this many votes for Any Time At All without a single vote for Ill Cry Instead. Dont ask me why.

For me it was actually a toss up between Anytime At All and I'll Cry Instead. I like both songs equally, but I went with the one that's already getting more votes, to let I'll Cry Instead hang on another week, maybe Smiley

Okay, that makes sense. You have eased my mind. Feel free to jump on the Things We Said Today train next round Smiley ...or not... longer it hangs around, longer til i'll have to make another tough decision.

What is surprising is that people defended "Anytime at all" against "I'm happy just to dance with you" when now they buzz off Beatles' best songs "Things we said today". Don't people like Paul's songs? Keep in mind that John isn't the best in the band. There wasn't the best, in fact. Beatles wouldn't be Beatles if John, Paul, George & Ringo didn't meet. Paul's songs & ideas matter as much as John's. He's not amateur to John's "genius". John would agree with it.

What are you talking about? Paul won Survivor #2 and the first song voted off AHDN is a song John wrote for George.

Here we go. Beatlemania is now in full swing.

Quote
The title of the album was the accidental creation of drummer Ringo Starr.[5] According to Lennon in a 1980 interview with Playboy magazine: "I was going home in the car and Dick Lester [director of the movie] suggested the title, 'Hard Day's Night' from something Ringo had said. I had used it in 'In His Own Write', but it was an off-the-cuff remark by Ringo. You know, one of those malapropisms. A Ringo-ism, where he said it not to be funny ... just said it. So Dick Lester said, 'We are going to use that title.'"

Sorry about the delay in tally. Holidays happened. This second round was pretty hotly contested too. (13 votes)

Five smilers voted that the time had come for Anytime At All.

Per the usual, vote for your LEAST FAVORITE TRACK!!!

Tally on the November 28.

A Hard Day's Night
I Should Have Known Better
If I Fell
And I Love Her
Tell Me Why
Can't Buy Me Love
I'll  Cry Instead
Things We Said Today
When I Get  Home
You Can't Do That
I'll Be Back

Round#1 I'm Happy Just To Dance With You November 19
Round#2 Anytime  At All November 22

When I Get Home is my pick for this round. I never liked Lennon's "WOAHOOWOA IIIIIIIIII" vocal. It's slightly embarrassing.
