Hi

I stumbled across this bit of magic years ago and made an mp3 of it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iMiOJZyOnM

Does anyone have the full strength audio of this? I'd love to be able to buy it if its released (or get a copy if its a boot)

If anyone with skills can take up the challenge of synching it with this audio of Dennis singin it live I would die a happy man if i can get to hear it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyawpzgLpAs

Please please if anyone fancies trying I'm all ears!!!

Sadly its a no on both accounts for me, heard his version for so long and seen him sing it so many times its sadly completely left me bereft of positive feeling and doubting any sincerity from his version.

Also lacks the strings, dennis always seemed to have that sincerity whether drunk, fooling around or whatever really.

If one prefers Dennis's version, that's cool. But I wouldn't begin to assume the level of sincerity in every performance from Joe Cocker or Dennis.

I've never found the song very intriguing or interesting myself, any version. It's of a similar ilk in my mind to Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are", an (arguably) sappy, melodramatic song that was overplayed in the 70s.

The song frankly reminds me unfortunately of this sketch from SCTV: https://youtu.be/NTIAbT-oGB0?t=16m9s

Every time I see or hear a show from the 70s or early 80s with Dennis singing YASB, I think of the KAJILLION *other* songs he could have been singing instead.

I've also heard some wasted Dennis performances of YASB that he probably didn't remember the next day.

Nevertheless, his family/estate should have fighting years ago to get his credit back for the song.

I would humbly suggest that if you're requesting help from folks here, dismissing their opinions ("turd versions"?) and complaining that people aren't posting about specifically what *you* want or need, probably isn't going to help your cause.

I'm guessing there's rather limited familiarity with a home-made video of Carli Munoz playing a gig outside of the Beach Boys, possibly a number of years after he left the touring band. Cool to see and hear of course.

Hello 'HeyJude'
Point taken and generally id agree with that sentiment, however posts suggesting the above clip in a reply to a friendly request just aint cool & at best a moot point, is that clip anything other than turd, i mean really?!?  Shocked

just watch it and see if you get anything beneficial from it  LOL

Thanks for the below info tho, much appreciated  Smiley

I'd side with the OP here - they didn't ask everybody's favorite YASB cover. It's weird. Granted, it could be phrased with tact but the request was sth. else.

I totally understand how, if someone is looking for a specific bit of info or whatever it is, and the thread goes into a bunch of digressions, that can be frustrating. I've experienced that myself.

But I also think a few quick one-line digressions just mentioning other versions of the song are not a big deal, and to kind of swoop in and task the board with something like this and then *complain* that someone isn't doing what you asked for is what I found a bit unfortunate.

I don't sense that anyone here has any further answers or solutions to the original post's questions; I don't think the quick offshoot mentions of other versions of the song have kept any answers to the original post from being offered.

I would also even say that discussing the oversaturation of the song decades ago, and how some people aren't big fans of the song and/or have memories of some wonky Dennis performances, etc., is germane to the discussion slightly, in that it might help explain the lack of enthusiasm for weird variations of the song among BB fans.

In just about every discussion of YASB that I've seen in the BB sphere, the discussion usually revolves around either the trivia regarding Dennis having co-written the song, or some sort of discussion of how its live performance was emblematic of Dennis's rapport with the audience and ladies in particularly in the mid-late 70s. I don't see (whether justified or not) a lot of love for the *composition* itself.

Fair enough. In fact, said sth. along the lines in reply to other post in other thread about different topic.

I've never seen a forum that is supposedly dedicated to music spend so much time talking about said forum itself and how to properly take sides on every single thread in the forum. It's quite hysterical.

Is this version of Carli and the orchestra from the POB tour rehearsal... or, alternately, didn't Dennis have a whole thing set up so he could serenade Christine McVie in her backyard?

I'm not even sure of the vintage of that video clip. It kinda looks like it came after Munoz left the touring band, like in the 80s. But I'm just guessing.

I highly doubt it's 1977 POB tour rehearsals. If there was video somewhere of the '77 POB tour rehearsals, that would be pretty mindblowing. I think there's still some questions about whether audio exists of the rehearsals (I recall Brad Elliott back in the day mentioning they found a tape box marked as POB tour rehearsals, but the tape wasn't there).

The caption/notes to the Op link says it's a rehearsal for that - seems to have been uploaded by Carli himself or on his behalf (AllIWannaDo - maybe you could try asking him via their or facebook if he has a better recording?).

"Carli Muņoz on piano, rehearsing "You are so beautiful" with with a chamber orchestra directed by Jimmy Haskell at the backyard of Christine McVie's (Fleetwood Mac) home in Beverly Hills, California. Dennis Wilson sang it for Christine as a surprise birthday party present."
