How about posting an old record for the parade?
Have it your own way.
This is a lovely track by Salt Water Taffy from their 1968 album
Finders Keepers
(yes, that list again):

This is even older. From 1966, Lorraine Ellison's "Stay With Me" was one of the first songs I linked on this forum. It's probably my favourite soul ballad--what a voice!

They have songs about everything, don't they. I was looking rather apprehensively for a song about reassurance and lo and behold there are several, including this cool example by Cartoone, a late '60s Scottish group with a fascinating if rather sad story (see link). "Let Me Reassure You" from their 1969 self-titled debut album must be one of the tracks to feature Jimmy Page on lead guitar:

Heard this Roy Orbison classic played live yesterday by an excellent trio during the open day held at the farm that provides our weekly organic fruit and veg.

Ranked as the #3 song of 1959 by Billboard, it's been popping into my head all summer! It's infectious.

It is indeed infectious! Lloyd Price recorded one of my all-time favourite r&b 45s, "Lawdy Miss Clawdy". Dating from 1952, it's more rock and roll than r&b to these ears. That's Fats Domino on piano (see PJ Riverdale's comment):

That's a great record, JK! Another one that I'm a big fan of is "Just Because". I first heard Lennon's version, then I tracked down Larry Williams' version, then, finally, Lloyd Price's original. I love them all.

Had this one in my head all morning. I was a huge fan of Del Shannon back in the day. "Keep Searchin'" is for CB.

Fine then. Here coolicious song for QAD, YZ, LC, NI, EW & KT. Sweetest peeps.

The most recent episode of Hawaii 5-0 kicked off with Larry William's "Slow Down" from 1958. It made me think of this thread!

Hi, B.E. I hope you're doing okay. And thanks for remembering this thread.
Lovely song! That brings back some memories. I first heard it in the earlyish '60s at the home of two friends of my brother. They'd built their own electric guitars, one bright red, the other bright blue. They worked too--only problem was that the necks were like tree trunks.
Anyway, during a break they put on "Slow Down"--I think it was a 78--followed by the equally awesome "Matchbox":

Here's a Christmas song that takes me back a few years... well, actually, back to the year of my birth.

Revisited this yesterday during a game at Hoffman. I remember being knocked out by The Misunderstood's "Children Of The Sun" when it was first released:

I'm listening to a countdown on the 60s satellite channel. The top 600 songs of the 60s as voted on by listeners. Listening on our satellite TV which has Sirius music channels (for those with DISH satellite it's channel 6006).
Didn't catch the first few hours so don't know what the lucky 600th song was. Picked it up in the lower 500s. Surprised at some of the songs there as why they were ranked so low. Wonderful songs (my opinion) such as Ruby Tuesday, Another Saturday Night, White Room. Penny Lane. Speaking of Penny Lane, Love Me Do (ugh!) was ranked higher!
Some nice surprises such as Vito and the Salutations' take on Unchained Melody, so different from the Righteous Brothers ' version.
As to songs BB fans would be interested in, The Regents' Barbara Ann was 512, and The Trade Winds' wonderful New York's a Lonely Town was 489. Away for a few hours of sleep, Dead Mans Curve was 308.
As for the BBs, shocking to hear WIBN at 484!
Be True to Your School was 453, Do You Wanna Dance 324. After waking up to All Along the Watchtower, Sloop John B was 293. Little Deuce Coupe 259.
Since they played a bit of DWB in one of the "teasers," I assume it Will be in there somewhere.
Will be listening throughout the day as I can while doing chores etc. Interesting to see people's music preferences and how they differ from mine.
So many great songs!
To add: Two songs back to back, how did they get in so high? The novelty song Mr. Custer ( "please Mr Custer , I don't wanna go") about one of the most boneheaded blunders in US history, was 255, followed by, In the Year 2525 (barf!)

Me too! Having a great time listening. Didn't hear the entire program, but listened for a few hours here and there. Darlin' was in the upper 500s, and I think that Don't Worry Baby was right around the 100 mark. The highest BBs' song was California Girls, at number 5.

Sounds like a great listening session, ladies (Happy New Year to you!). In NL we have the slightly less classy "Radio 2 Top 2000", which is obligatory in our household (nothing to do with me!) for the best part of a week:
https://www.nporadio2.nl/top2000
Besides an awful lot of dross (in at least two languages) there were five Beach Boys songs this time, the highest entry being "GOK" at #13...

Well that's great that GOK got some respect (lucky 13 out of 2000 ain't bad).
For a change of pace I'm listening to the top 30 of the top 500 songs of the 50s.
Teenyboppers such as Frankie Avalon (Venus) but also great songs like At the Hop, Blueberry Hill, Yakkety Yak. Presently playing is Kingston Trio's Tom Dooley.

One other thing I noticed about the top 600 of the 60s, voted on by listeners:
There was one song that stood in the way of the Beach Boys dominating the top of the charts during the latter part of 1966.
That song didn't even make the top 600 list.
The song? Winchester Cathedral...

Another novelty song! Others like it that kept far worthier contenders out of the US top slot were "Dominique" (in French) and "Sukiyaki" (in Japanese!).
I may just be biased but it seems to me that Americans over the years have been more susceptible to novelty records than Europeans...

All this talk of Jerome K. Jerome reminded me of this great 1964 cover by Manfred Mann of Bo Diddley's "Bring It To Jerome", the Jerome in question being Bo's maracas player Jerome Green:
