Most music posted in this section of the board is of recent origin----and understandably so. This new topic is a place for music from the decades prior to the millennium.
If nothing else, it's the context of (or backdrop to) the music of the band to which this forum is dedicated. Other than that, anything goes.
I had this opening song on my mind this afternoon----no reason, no breakages...

1963 was full of good stuff. This one by the Chiffons was truly exceptional:

I have queued those songs for future listening, john!
I suppose my second favorite artist of the '60s (next to the Beach Boys) might be good ol' Simon & Garfunkel.

Their greatest hits album was one of the first albums I ever owned. Love them!
Listen to this one, and it's always Summer. Petula Clark 'Call Me':

Goodness, there are so many great old records! This is one of my earliest musical memories. That last "you" unnerved me even then...
It's "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos:

One for the ages!
The 60s brought some of the best R'n'B records ever made imo. Listen to this for example (produced by Leiber&Stoller btw):

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I'd never given a thought to where that song came from, but this is stunning. So is gf's Barbara Lewis song (which I heard at the time it was released). Those backing vocals!
The US charts in the early '60s were certainly full of surprises. Dick and Dee Dee's "The Mountain's High", a huge favourite of mine, was utterly out of left field (and a B-side to boot) but reached #2 in 1961. That vocal stack is really weird but it works!

good thread, some other gems - "Runaway", "El Condor Pasa", "Peppermint Twist", Little Richard/Chuck Berry songs, Desmond Dekker & the Aces' "007 (Shanty Town)" (short version).

That was my favorite song from 1963. I liked the "doolang doolang doolang" part.

Little Richard's got the best rock&roll voice. I like his songs because I'm fan of fast songs plus they're positive.

"Jeepers Creepers". My favorite version is by Paul Whiteman which they used in lame B-standard horror movies. It's jolly good, as is Tony Bennett's.

Great song. It was a a favourite of the Beatles and also, one of those rare cases of a track that was actually an instrumental first.
Here's the original version, "A Night With Daddy G" by the Church Street Five, before the lyrics were added to make it "Quarter to Three":

Thanks, Rocker. "Cadillac Man" is a corker! (I must confess to preferring Little Walter's original of "My Babe".)
