From Mike's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/OfficialMikeLove/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1098595196885987):

"In 1964 we played a show at a small note club popular with teens and did two sets. The prices were unbelievably inexpensive back then. Anyway the Saxophone I was playing was left behind. After all this time, I was reunited with that saxophone last night! It happened because of the kind efforts of Marsha and Greg Ward that I was reunited with my Sax over 50 years later. The Ward family could not have been nicer and yes, they joined us on stage for “Barbara Ann” for our encore last night at Huber Heights."

This appears to be the woman credited by Mike for giving back his sax: https://www.facebook.com/marcia.b.ward This was her explanation on her Facebook page:

"They left it at the Coconut Lounge in July of 1964...and when Diane died, it went to Greg..thinking it was Uncle Herb's. After sleuthing through all of the papers and folders from the groups who played the C. Lounge, we found a letter from the Beach Boys' manager, then, asking if a sax had been found..one of the B B;s was missing a tenor sax. Vincent and I did some research..and determined it had to be the missing sax. They were in Australia/New Zealand in January of 1964 and the travel stickers were still on the sax case. After almost a year of correspondence..this was arranged. It was truly a magic moment..and to see Katie and Megan dancing with Mike Love..well, now that was the icing on the cake. The concert reminded me how fortunate we are to live in a free country..and be able to see and hear these amazing musicians. You wake up and think you are 20 again...plus I wore my new B B hat to feed the chickens...Wink"

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Nice story but personally I'd prefer to still have the sax in place of the meetup/onstage thing  Grin

That's great! Imagine if Mike had never lost it... "I think this song needs a sax solo, Brian." "You say that about EVERY song, Mike!"

I foresee Shut Down, Part II being added to the setlist.

Too bad as well.  From what I understood...old '2-note' was actually GLAD that the sax had gone awol.  Gawd!!!  I hope he doesn't start playing it again. Shocked

In an alternate universe where Mike didn't lose his saxophone, we are treated to a 2-note sax solo in the middle of "Don't Talk" instead of the solos by the string section.

Oh, the possibilities...   Cheesy

Doubt it. He wouldn't be able to point and play sax at the same time.  Wink

Replace the wailing trumpets on "Little Bird" with the sax?

Nah, replace the cellos with him playing staccato notes on the sax , and blowing like a sonofabitch.

The reason I like this place is because nobody has to ask "what cellos?" 3D
