So what's wrong with newbies, anyway?  Yeah, the same old questions can get a little tiresome, but it's the newbies who keep things moving forward.  If there was no new interest in Brian or the Boys, then it would all just f-f---fade away...and then where would we be???

I consider myself a newbie still and to be honest, it brings me more happiness to see constant attention (whether learned or not) going to the band that we all love. As you said, new fans are keeping it all alive and kicking.

I haven't wrote anything of substance concerning the band, no one will remember my thoughts as being insightful or inspiring, but that band's music has been a very close friend to me.

We were all newbies once. I personally enjoy helping new fans find answers to their questions.

I was actually born knowing EVERYTHING about Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys, including the legends of Smile that Brian himself probably never knew. Unfortunately, I partially swallowed a penny when I was about two, and it got lodged in my throat. On the trip to the hospital, I hit my head on the car's passenger-wide dashboard (thanks for your excellent care, sis), and while the penny became dislodged, the knowledge disappeared.

Alas, I didn't even qualify as a newbie for about another 21 or 22 years, when I took up interest. So I had to start all over on boards like this--including the Blueboard, which is nice for that sort of thing (despite everyone's fun mocking it). So, newbies, I love you.

P.S., most of that story is true.

Are those the newbies who can't spell or the newbies who are ignorant about the Beach Boys?

Newbies are the lifeblood of fandom. No problem there.

My problem (and here I must stress that this is my problem) is with newbies who have read maybe Brian's book, have surfed a few fan sites, have perhaps SOS, Pet Sounds, BWPS and/or GIOMH and think they know it all. A lil' respect for their elders (though not necessarily betters) would be nice. That's the big problem - if it's on the  'net, it must be true.

That said, it has its compensations - waaaay back in my early days online, I gave a (possibly over-)detalied answer to some question or other, to which its setter replied "Gee, know everything, don't you - why don't you go write a book ?"  Cool

My first "so what IS that version of Do You Like Worms" on the Vigotone 3-fer" is still available on usenet archive! I was a newbie once as well, and if it weren't for people's VERY PATIENT explanations to me, I would probably never have stuck around.

Same here! I 'll never forget my first post on the old Mike Wheeler board: I just heard "Do you Wanna Dance" for the first time, and I asked if it was Dennis or Bruce singing LOL: At this time, the only BB-related releases I had was BW88.

BTW...what ever happened to Dave Prokopy.

Dave retired from BB fandom... he was tired of people asking the same questions over and over again.  Smiley  NOT
