There are many people who say 1987, but I am pretty sure it's 1988.

Beach Boys- Seasons In The Sun

I never heard this before, very cool

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzjIra9pheU

That is interesting. Who wrote/produced that song? It doesn't seem like something the BB would've done at that time. I like it, but I can't think of a BB that would've written that. Who in the BB camp was against it?

"Seasons in the Sun" was a worldwide hit song for Terry Jacks in 1974. It was first released in the United States and Canada early in the year, and rose to number one in America by March 2. The song had been done by English band The Fortunes in 1968, and by Pearls Before Swine in 1970/71.

The song was based on a song called "Le Moribond" ("The Dying Man") by Jacques Brel. Brel's song was translated into English by poet Rod McKuen, and McKuen's English version was recorded by Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio, which did not sell. The Beach Boys also recorded the song. Jacks rewrote part of the lyrics to "lighten them up." Jacks' revisions tended to add a bit of ambiguity as to the nature of the storyteller's demise, allowing listeners the option to choose whether the death is from suicide over a failed life - quite possibly to escape drug addiction - or someone accepting death from natural causes, such as cancer. References to a cheating wife were also removed.

"Thank foda he didn't mention me!" - Elton John

I know Bob Dylan said something (not as funny though) like that as well.. Can't remember what it was, but does anybody know what came first? Elton John's comments or Bob Dylan's??

Elton's comment came right after Mike's speech. Bob Dylan said something like "i'd like to thank Mike Love for not mentioning me".

Do you mean Elton or Dylan? I think Dylan came on stage after the Beach Boys, didn't he? He said, added to the above quote, something like "peace and harmony is important, but so is forgiveness". The crowd cheered and Mike (and therefor unfortunately the Beach Boys) got a verbal kick in the a$$ from one of the most important figures in rock music.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I believe Elton said his thing immediately thereafter, and Dylan a bit later. The Dylan clip is also on youtube, at the very end of his speech.

Brian seems quite disinterested. It appears that Mike and Carl keep looking at him to get him to sing and play. Early in the song Mike looks over at Brian and moves his fingers as if to say, "Play Brian! You're making me look bad!"

In that early 80s interview, was Dennis actually talking about Manson? I don't think so.

This has been discussed over at the Dennis Wilson dreamer message board. I haven't watched the video but apparently a lot of the interviews etc.. are taken out of context and aren't actually about Manson etc..

Sad thing is, as far as I remember Dennis was talking about no one else than his brother Brian Wilson when he said that this someone had a gift to organize their thoughts to a point where they got hypnotic.

Ah well, anything to make a dull hippie nutcase look a bit more intriguing...

Whatever you may call Manson--and there are plenty of negative things to call him--I don't think dull is one of them. Pretty interesting character and situation to learn about, actually.

The comments Dennis was making on his boat WERE about Brian. Watch "The Beach Boys: An American Band" I remember it clearly. I also have a still sealed VHS copy of it. My brother bought me a double. Unfortunately though, if people aren't aware of that special, then they will believe whatever is put in front of them. 3D

I could not believe my ears! Somebody put the original Sloop John B vocals over Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. And it works!!

ah, OK. Maybe for the timing, but not style. The "grunge" Evil sound doesn't work with the sweetness of the original Sloop John B. angel
