Bruce dedicates "I write the songs" to Trump, calling Trump "one of the most incredible financial success stories in the 20th century", which is kinda ironic, since Trump at that point had already gone bancrupt a lot of times and lost most of his money (which to a big part was actually his father's money). During from the mid 80s to mid 90s Trump lost more money than any other citizen in the U. S. In fact, around the early 2000s russian oligarchs allegedley started to launder their money through Trump properties, giving him part of the "income". In fact even in 2012 or even later, one of his sons mentioned in a magazine aboout golfing that their main income is from "Russians". The New York Times had a lot of reporting about this in 2018 and also 2019.

Bruce couldn't know this of course.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Here's a TV interview with Carl who was cutting his second solo album at that time. He also talks about Brian just having entered his second Landy term, working with Skunk Baxter and other stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcOHwarMNKk

Cool to see. Carl did another even longer interview in 1983, possibly for PBS, where he discussed some of the same topics. It was from the same time frame, so he discussed Brian's therapy and whatnot. I have it on VHS buried somewhere; the video quality was pretty bad but it sounded okay so it was still pretty interesting.

If they ever get around to doing a "Beatles Anthology" sort of thing for the Beach Boys, they're going to have to mine sources like this for Carl interview footage.
I remember the interview you are talking about, it was on a show called PBS Late Night. I think the hosts name was Dennis Wholley. He always started the show with "you've made it once again", which a friend told me was AA jargon. They showed a clip of Carl doing "Rockin' All Over the World" - from the sessions? I don't recall much else, except he briefly touched on his own past drug issues - "it was horrible, I wouldn't wish that on anybody". Sure hope someone has this footage.
His interview on Tomorrow with Tom Snyder would also be interesting to see - because Snyder apparently couldn't accept that California Girls was anything but a put down of all girls not from the sunshine state.

Does anyone happen to have a copy of The Beach Boys' appearance on the Super Bowl Pre-Game Show in 1987 (Super Bowl XXI)?  They performed "Little Old Lady from Pasadena".  Would be greatly appreciative if anyone had a copy they could upload!  Thanks!

Copied from the Stamos HBO thread, the sitcom "You Again?" from 1986:

FYI - If you haven't seen the clips of the show "You Again?" as mentioned in the press release above, here are the clips featuring The Beach Boys (with Brian) on the episode "The Audition" first aired in October 1986. This was right before Stamos landed the Full House gig. Jack Klugman played John's father on the show, and John's character "Matt" auditions on drums for the Beach Boys in this episode. Notably Carl is missing from the first audition scene yet he is there for the later concert and rehearsal scenes. Pretty interesting to see all of them acting and playing circa 1986.

Cover Story episode - Brian Wilson 1988

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYMEOk1ffbs

A very lucid seeming Brian and some of the best and most interesting interviews (if you take out the Landy stuff) into Brian's thoughts from the man himself.

EDIT:

Look at 17:38
Would you have thought that there is a connection between "That same song" and "Rio Grande"? Listen to the right hand. Maybe just coincidence but interesting to hear.
