Lengthy interview - Brian Wilson on Art Fein's Poker Party, 1988: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjudXYGJHK8
There is also one with Bruce from the same show on YT.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoPE5PQVHQQ

Indeed there is!

Always interesting watching people do career retrospectives, but at a point in time which now is decades earlier in itself

Also funny watching them try to fade the song clips in and out using cassette...

Great, thanks!
Strange to watch Brian work out. I mean he probably was in quite a good shape physically, but he just doesn't look healthy.
Also look at his appearance on the EPK, looks like two different persons.

Holy sh!t, this was new to me:

You think so? I thought that maybe Brian was reminded of this song after hearing the '95 tracks for Made In California and got interested again. But that was just a guess, based on no information.

That version is 100% fake. The same person also has a fake version of "Getcha Back" posted on their channel.

I remember when this fake "Dancing the Night Away" surfaced last year; the best I can say is that, I guess, it gives a slight idea to how a more finished version could have sounded. But this is firmly in the same category as all the fan-made versions of "Now and Then" by the Beatles; it's just a curio that, if done well (and preferably honestly labeled, which the fake BB track isn't), gives a tiny morsel of a road map to how a finished song could sound.

Years ago there was a collection of rough '85 mixes floating around. I believe (ironically, considering they were digitally recorded) they were in some cases from acetates or test pressings or something like that. I recall a version of "California Calling" with alternate lyrics and different lead vocal trade offs. I also recall a slightly alternate mix of "Getcha Back" (the one difference I can remember is an additional synth swell during the drum intro). And also the alternate of "She Believes..."

I went to the Something Great From '68 show at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel on 2019/08/31 which happened to be the first date of the tour. I tried to smuggle in my little audio recorder but security seemed too tight when I first showed up so I abandoned the project. However, I collected every possible cell phone video that people were willing to give to me and "borrowed" some from YouTube, Instagram & Reddit and in the end was able to make a concert video for both the Zombies (about 24 minutes worth) & Brian Wilson (about and hour and 10 minutes worth). When I had more than source, I mixed it into stereo. Some people may be frustrated by the lack of Friends material (only 2 seconds worth of "Wake The World" for instance) but I only missed 2 songs from the BW set: "Darlin'" and "Passing By". Everything else is here, complete or otherwise. Enjoy it for what it is, a document of latter day Brian Wilson with his band performing a set mostly consisting of material that covered 1967-1972.

Here's a TV interview with Carl who was cutting his second solo album at that time. He also talks about Brian just having entered his second Landy term, working with Skunk Baxter and other stuff.

Cool to see. Carl did another even longer interview in 1983, possibly for PBS, where he discussed some of the same topics. It was from the same time frame, so he discussed Brian's therapy and whatnot. I have it on VHS buried somewhere; the video quality was pretty bad but it sounded okay so it was still pretty interesting.

If they ever get around to doing a "Beatles Anthology" sort of thing for the Beach Boys, they're going to have to mine sources like this for Carl interview footage.

Yes. I just thought about something like that yesterday. There's not that much filmed interview material with Dennis, I believe. But there are some radio interviews with him that go into detail. Those certainly could be used. If a new documentary will be made I hope that they use interesting stuff that hasn't been used before that much, like footage from news reports/other filmed concerts, the Ida Blackburn footage/interviews from 1964 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z4N4BSs4Ic ) and all those kind of cool things.

While I'm getting way too far head talking about a documentary that will unfortunately more like than not never happen, documentaries have to balance out cost of licensing the footage versus how integral it is.

They'd likely only pay to license old interviews that have something they need for a documentary, rather than just being a curio as far as being rare, old footage.

It's so fascinating to watch a Carl Wilson interview. He's always so thoughtful and methodical about everything. You can quite literally see the wheels turning in his head.

Enjoyed that.  Carl sometimes comes across a little too 'guarded' in interviews IMO, but here he seems happy and relaxed.

Weird part of that '83 Carl interview is that he actually drops the name of Carolyn Williams (first name anyway), and makes a not-so-subtle reference to her being Brian's nurse before their relationship further developed, but then all of a sudden seems to calmly but still abruptly catch himself and say he can't go into details. It actually opens up the can of worms by mentioning anything at all, and then raises more suspicions with the "I can't go into details" bit. Not blaming Carl, it's a weird obviously *hugely complicated* thing to get into in a five-minute interview ostensibly to plug his solo album.

I would imagine there aren't a ton of interviews where you hear Carl even say Carolyn's name. So that's interesting in and of itself.

This is probably a good example of the pros and cons of a Carl interview. He was obviously a warm, well-spoken, erudite guy with a nice vocabulary, and you can clearly see he's intelligent and *could* have A LOT to say on all sort of topics. But it's also frustrating because he's SOOOOO guarded and unwilling to actually reveal much of anything. I mean, this interview is just fine for a quickie local bit to plug his album, and I commend the interviewer for asking Carl about what was going on at that time. Keep in mind early 1983 was a pretty tumultuous period for the band. Dennis was obviously struggling, Brian was back with Landy and it was unclear how that was going to develop. I'd imagine Carl and the other guys were both pleased to see Brian alive and in better physical shape and probably also already re-familiarizing themselves with how odd Landy's methods were.

I think Carl's interviews are thoughtful and interesting up to a point, and then they usually become frustratingly cagey and guarded. That is, in the relatively rare instances where he did a deeper-dive interview that wasn't just going to be 15 seconds of b-roll interview footage for some TV feature piece.

Yeah, certainly. And also we don't know what they have in their archives and own. But stuff like the Ida Blackburn footage and other stuff showing them in their early prime on stage, is pure gold to me. There's just so few of it in other documentaries. It's mostly the Lost Concert and the T.A.M.I. show. Maybe some appearances on TV shows. But never of an actual tour show.

Here's some snippets of an interview with the Boys from 1973. Some interesting sounds. Does anyone have the whole thing or knows where it comes from? It's not from the BBC Beach Boys Story, I believe.

I see the user put a link in his description. You can register on the following site and then listen to the whole thing.
