To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

The finale of the T.A.M.I. show. I never realized that Mike and two other guys (couldn't see who) carried Dennis like a surfboard across the stage.  Cheesy

Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson has postponed his June tour over mental health concerns

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkQB3Tb1Erg

In fact this interview is about Brian stopping touring with the Boys in '64. There's also a short clip of "Going home". Does anyone know from which concert that comes? Is there more from that show?

I haven't listened with headphones but only through my laptop speakers, but something sounded strange. Did they play and sing live while at the same time having the original recording playing?

They're definitely miming, because you hear more than one vocal from Mike. Maybe the backing vocals are live. The chorus is louder than any other part of the song for some reason. I also hear Brian, but I don't see him.

Brian is on piano on the right side of the stage.
I just listened with headphones. I guess they pre-recorded a track + vocals for the broadcast and then sang live along to it but certainly not to the original recording as I thought earlier. That wouldn't be unusual. They did the same for the Reagan inauguration ("Their hearts were full of spring"), I believe.

Here's a video of Carl being interviewed by Wolfman Jack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8ujAcclGHM I'm posting it because I happened to get a copy of Wolfman Jack's 1995 autobiography not to long ago, and Wolfman tells an interesting anecdote about this interview. Apparently Brian was the one who was supposed to be interviewed, but when he came out and sat down, he suddenly froze for a few seconds, and then bolted out of the room.

Neat, thank you! Is the whole thing available somewhere?

I wasn't aware they played the SIP version of "Surfin'" in 1993 but...:

Never heard this:

Randy Bachman's take on his 1979 collaboration with Carl Wilson and The Beach Boys, "Keepin' the Summer Alive". This was released on Randy's 1981 album On Strike, recorded by his group Union. I believe the album has had a CD release, but I was only able to find a vinyl rip of this track unfortunately. Still, for those who have been curious as to what this sounds like, here you go!
