Intervew with Carl on Old Grey Whistles Test at Brother Studios if I'm not mistaken, 1974 (starts at ca. 9:30 mns.). He talks about Brother Records, Smile, Sunflower, In Concert and the group

This is the intro to the "The girls on the beach" movie, including Dennis' intro of The Crickets. Hadn't seen this one:

In this video I make a bold statement about an album I recently discovered- Dennis Wilson: Pacific Ocean Blue. I also discuss the history, the music and the tragedy of his life. Also covered is The Beach Boys, the Love and Mercy movie and Bambu: The Caribou Sessions on vinyl and CD. So grab yourself a snack, sit back and enjoy the video!

The San Diego gig was 1/16/81, the first show on the 1981 tour schedule. Carl did all the gigs with the band in January and February of 1981 before departing. Those were his last shows until he did a few shows in March/April 1982 before briefly departing again before rejoining for good in May.

Thanks for the info. I didn't have the IN Concert book nearby to check the date. At the very end, you can see Brian at the piano. I wonder if catching all three Wilson's on stage was rare by that point? I noticed at one point that Al seems to be wearing an original striped shirt.

This clip is rare enough that I felt it deserved a prominent spot in the main forum ( http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,26557.msg649365/topicseen.html#msg649365 ), but it's worth posting here as well.

The Beach Boys on "Happening '68" with "Wake the World" and "Do It Again":

Take a look now before it (hopefully doesn't) get pulled off YouTube....

Bill Cunningham posted this on Facebook. Thought it was nice to read, though not worth a thread on it's own.

In 1968, Carl and Dennis Wilson and I were cruising around LA. We stopped by a studio (Gulf Western?) to pick up new Beach Boys tapes. We interrupted the recording of Boyce and Hart’s laying down the vocals for this song. I thought they were creative, although too light weight for me. Still it was nice to meet them.

A quick search shows the "Happening '68" TV show taping took place on August 12, 1968, right during promotion for the "Wake the World/Do It Again" single. I don't think "I Can Hear Music" had even been completed in the studio when they did this TV show.

They later did "I Can Hear Music" on The Mike Douglas Show:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzCy0VKMhUs

They also did "I Can Hear Music" on other TV shows around that same time in 1969.

It's weird seeing Carl lip sync to a lead from Brian, having seen Brian do the same with a Carl lead on a few tv shows from 1981.
