Glen Campbell does cool medley in 1977: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evRGtn7q6Go

Highlights:

- "Rhonda" into "Surfer Girl" at 2:49.
- speaking of, beautifully sung with low key SG. Would be nice to hear it in full.
- guitar solo at 4:30 during "Surfin' USA". 3D

Does anybody have the full Charlie Rose interview with the Beach Boys? I don't think I've ever seen it in full:

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I found a live recording of the 1992 version of Surfin'. I have to admit, it sounds pretty damn good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psphd3nHzm4

This is great. What song were they actually recording here? It's definitely not "I Can Hear Music."

At least parts of it are "Time to get alone". Check out "An American Band" where some of that footage was synched with audio of that song.

Check this out:

Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys

Called the greatest single in history by countless critics, journalists and fans, the narrative behind the 1966 experimental, pocket symphony masterpiece "Good Vibrations" as told by the Beach Boys and their contemporaries.

Thanks for this. I like the demonstrative approval of Bruce after that question also (his only contribution other then sitting next to Mike).

I believe it to be in fact an Alan Boyd track, which can be found on his rather great Channel Surfing CD

That would make sense as it sounds not like a Beach Boys style song but like what many people call a Beach Boys style song. Overloaded with harmony-layers and unadventurous melodies. This one is pretty nice though.

Does the video of Brian on tour still exist? He plays a Carl song on piano at one point. I think it's Long Promised Road.

Here's something I've been looking for, for quite a while; a live version of Forever from 1973. You can already hear a difference in Dennis's voice. I always thought it wasn't until 1974 that his voice changed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0L35TG7Kf4

I'm almost certain that it's a typo. Simply because of the fact that we would have known and been talking about it by now.  Wink

My First Gig: The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys' Mike Love and Bruce Johnston look back fondly on the first concerts they attended, with Johnston super-excited about his “so cool” experience. (June 25)

Beach Boys Guitarist Scott Totten and the True Spring Reverb

Scott Totten, the touring guitarist and musical director of The Beach Boys, dials in a custom spring reverb and tremolo tone with the True Spring Reverb. The True Spring Reverb is a spring reverb and tremolo combination guitar effects pedal. The pedal features three styles of amp and outboard spring reverb effects as well as opto, bias, and harmonic tremolo effects. Learn more about the True Spring Reverb at - https://www.sourceaudio.net/true_spri... We visited with Scott before the Beach Boys Christmas show at the Chevalier Theatre in Medford, MA. There we were able to help Scott dial a perfect surf guitar, outboard spring reverb tone with the True Spring Reverb's Tank engine. Scott also has the Bias Tremolo available by pressing the External Tap Switch.
