Holy shite I was reading about this just the other day (I'm compiling an alternate Beatles anthology thing and so I'm reading about every little thing they recorded) and I felt bad cause I was sure I'd never get to hear it.
It's great because we all know Paul loves
Pet Sounds
, but considering how little he talks about it or has made me feel like it was his record of the moment then and I definitely felt there was no way he probably listened to anything else by them (except the hits and things). It's great to think he's listened to those pre-
Pet Sounds
albums as well. And even as far back as 'The Lonely Sea'.
I wonder if he ever heard 'Til I Die' or
Love You
or any of that post-
SMiLE
period.

Interesting. Never heard this! There have been discussion for a long time now that they weren't playing "Lonely sea" but just a similar chord progression (which indeed isn't that unusual). But this shows them clearly playing "You're so good to me" (someone even says "Beach Boys" here), so there's a chance they also had "Lonely sea" in mind, although it's just a part that sounds like it.
IIRC after Pet Sounds and the Beach Boys hype in England, the older albums started selling quite well over there

I never thought I'd hear Paul McCartney sing(er, perhaps vocalize would be a better term) part of a Beach Boys song. It's almost surreal. Kind of like the first time I heard John and Paul sing part of A Quick One(While He's Away) by The Who.

I don't think there's any fakery involved (unless someone has managed to impersonate McCartney saying "it's that Beach Boys song" and then singing a snatch of You're So Good to Me)
'Lonely Sea' appears to be Lennon(?) randomly plucking the 4-chord sequence on guitar, but this could be co-incidental, as they make no other reference to the song.

Didn't George in Anthology say that they used "lalala" in some Beatles song(s) inspired by "You're so good to me"?

There was also one of the webisodes with footage of Brian in the control room and the Boys at the mic doing "Shelter". I don't have it here. But I guess you can find it on some official youtube channel
