They are rough shows, but Brian added a whole lot live.

He does, but his "falsetto" on Hawaii is just painful.

BTW, if anyone is interested, here's a link to the other Lei'd In Hawaii show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_ermgskgjU
I love the Hawaii shows. They are untogether but in a cool way. I like the rough edges and Brian being there made a difference in the blend. It's good like Smiley is good.

Most exciting part of both of these shows is the emcee's intro!!!  Embarrassed

The second show was ok but the sounds is just bad.
Considering that they did very good versions of H&V at both shows I wonder why they didn't keep it in the set after these concerts. It was a hit after all...

I dunno about you guys, but they sound fantastic on this show and Mike's actually  pretty funny:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMbI-SVtM3I&feature=youtu.be: November 17, 1967 - Detroit, MI

In my opinion, the 66-67 shows were quite poor in general. With some exceptions. It's incredible how much better they sounded in 1968 and onwards (also because of the additional musicians).

Mike's goofy banter is really annoying, too. After Dennis sings You've Got To Hide Your Love Away in one of the 1966 shows, Mike comments 'Pretty good for a kid with no talent.' Sigh...

It is called joking around, and I am sure Dennis took it as such. I find Mike's jokes harmless. By the way, who started the a cappella means nude? I have heard Bruce and Mike do it. That is a funny joke. Smiley

Joking around...the whole time, messing up lyrics etc. Bruce has the same kind of humor.

Chicago '65 gig sounds incredible.  This has to be the performing peak of the early era + Brian.  Includes best live version of Don't Worry Baby ever...?  Even Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow rocks!

Smiley  Smiley This is a 5:06 long mix up Surf's Up in true stereo. Well mostly stereo, some of the ahhh Ahhh ahhhs toward the
end are mono. To my ear parts 1 and 2 don't match and sound like different recordings (they are) but the rest is
pretty solid. The dove-nested towers part is really two recordings synced -- the coda is extended and the "child"
part comes in a with a bit more dynamics.

Sorry its not "streaming audio" folks...

I tried to preserve the audio quality (51.5 MB WAV) as I find these mixes sound great on my system and not so
great uploaded to you tube (which must compress the snot out of everything). So it will be necessary to save
the file (save link as - or other download manager) and play it with a media player of your choice.

Took about 2 mins for me to down it and my connection is not that fast.
I may still do a you tube of it later but the quality wont be as good.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did putting it together.

Because I love Teeter Totter Love and have always wanted to hear the backing track (which doesn't exist anymore apparently), I created a short backing track using snippets from the original acetate version (via The Smile Sessions):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9ZNDfp2Oyw

Without words it's fairly monotonous, so I only made it :37 seconds long. Hope you enjoy!

I don't know about that; seems to me that in this case, the track sounds better without the vocal

Shocked Melinda does not seem happy here,
especially with Boyd, looks like she says for him to come down and help

She really looks like a highly strung person.

Hope Brian's back gets better soon

I got the impression she wasn't happy with the other guys hoppin' on stage before (the grrreeaaaat) Brian Wilson does, not so much because they weren't giving her a hand. Well...  Tongue

I heard this for the first time. BB in Detroit, Nov 67

http://youtu.be/eMbI-SVtM3I

The crowd gives great response to Wild Honey at 27:10. Makes sense cuz it had just been released as a single. Darlin hadn't been released and received mild applause. IMO Wild Honey is a much better song, and I don't understand why Darlin was the bigger hit. Of course Babarann was a much bigger hit than God Only Knows so...
Wow, what a great show! How She Boogalooed It is fantastic! Cool to hear it being performed live. Surely, it's slower than studio v-n, yet the latter lacks the authenticity, i.e. the words were sung too quick & so on. Also I liked Mike's small water banter & coughing before CalGirls ("this... is one of my favorite cowboy songs"). Intro to Wild Honey is groovy! And did Carl ever sing it with much effort! It's almost as flawless and determined as the Wild Honey track. Unbelievable! Johnny B Good is done here better than the 1964 v-n. Cool piano & organ variations, the guitar solo is sick! In general, they all sound great, good to hear them being still like friends, entertaining each other. I - of course - quickly downloaded it to my collection before it got deleted by record company or sth. else. Anyway, thanks for sharing this YT link, MTR! And many thanks to gfac22 for uploading that concert! That was very generous thing to do!

Who is singing lead on Barbara Ann?
