I have never heard this song with an intro before. Is it even real? h

Sounds like it is

BTW here's the version without intro:

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

When did Bruce sing in Brian's band?
The Imagination show(s?). There is a DVD of it available, though the concert obviously used prerecorded tracks (i.e., that's a whole lotta Brian singing at once...) and apparently the live sound was also fixed up after the fact. Plus it includes that gawd-awful Sean Lennon interview.

Oh man. My version of the bootleg doesn't have the intro too. Have I been living this entire time with a edited version?  Cry

It sounds quite fake, in my opinion. It reminds me of the theme to the tonight show with Johnny Carson.

Sounds like someone took the horn part just before the drum break and just edited it. I'd say fan-made, not an actual studio take or even studio edit.

Hope this hasn't been posted already.  It's a recording of Brian Wilson on piano, playing "Mt. Vernon and Fairway" for a friend in 72'(?).

That clip about the cookies cracks me up every time.  LOL

An interesting thing to listen for in that "Mt. Vernon and Fairway" recording:  before he starts playing, it sounds like he's complaining to Marilyn about how the piano tuner "tuned it and ruined it".

Damn it, this could have done great things for the group. I consider it the best Beach Boys song since anything from the Love You album.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgwdZN-GoGA

First time I've heard this...I love it!!!

Sounds like he incorporated part of this verse idea later in "This Isn't Love".  Also, the chorus has a nice "Can't Wait Too Long"/Smile-esque vibe to it.

I have the infamous Long Beach show as dvd files on my computer. If I can figure out how to rip them and if theres interest I'll put them up. I think they have been long since taken down.

Just discovered this on youtube! Sorry if this has been posted before, but it blew me away:

1971, the boys discussing Paul McCartney's chewing on Vegetables plus an acoustic (!) version of the song that really rocks.

Is this the origin of the much quoted story?
