The dream of Amsterdamee...

I'm not sure I believe that it was REALLY Bruce Johnston who posted on The Beach Boys Britain Forum (the obvious, undisputed place to go for official Beach Boys news). It doesn't make much sense and its impossible to prove.

As "Bruce Johnston" has been posting on the BB board for several years now, I think I can savely assume that IF he isn't the real BJ, by now the moderators overthere would have noticed it by now and would have taken proper action.

As for the performance on DWTS: no, ML wasn't in the best vocal shape. Whether it was bronchitis or something else doesn't really matter (but I intent to believe BJ on this). Such can happen. According to several YT-video's, BW also has his off-days. And don't we all want our Brian to always be good as well?
I prefer the positive approach: they also (often) have their good days. And I'm going to enjoy these (good) performances as long as we still can.

Well said and as you say Brian has his off days too (as well all know). Anyone remember his performance of Going Home on Jay Leno? That was pretty woeful.

Mike should have sang "Don't Go Near the Water"! They would've looked like profits (prophets?) and made a big splash! Really, though, it's time for the song to be brought back. Mike, Brian, someone... JUST DO IT.

Why wasn't this ever released? I love, love, love this song !! Sounds like a bona fide hit !!

Here's a good sounding version of the studio outtake of "Back in the USSR". Was it really a Beach Boys outtake or something Mike did with one of his bands? And if it's the BBs, who are the players?

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Because it was a part of a really terrible album. But it is odd that isn't among the several songs originally intended for SI and released later. At least Darian's version was released. I prefer that anyway.

I think I posted this before, but I thought I'd do it again, because it doesn't seem to be talked about much. Something very strange is going on with Carl's hair in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wf5095Ex2Q&feature=related

Here's a recent post of concert footage (two live songs) of a Ready Steady Go appearance in Britain.  Good quality audio and video.  Gotta love that false start on When I Grow Up!

Also, Mike Love's being a bigger a-hole than ever on this video, but it makes me wonder why he never tried to become a radio DJ:

If I remember correctly, I believe it was Brian saying all that. The vid proves that Brian had a lot of anger towards Mike regarding SMiLE....alluding to the idea that Brian thought it was mostly Mike's fault for SMiLE's outcome possibly?

You mean Brian wrote it, or he's doing an immaculate Mike Love impression, or what?

According to Peter Carlin's book 'Catch a Wave', page 125, it was Brian who was imitating Mike Love. I had never heard it until you posted the link....I thought it was Love when i heard it, then I remembered it was Brian.

Thanks for posting it here, btw....I figured Carlin was one of the only people who had heard it....I really didn't believe it existed.

You know, I've joked about Brian's voice being so versatile that he probably could've perfectly replicated the harmonies singlehandedly, but hearing that, I'm starting to believe it.
