But you know what? He was as positive and animated as I've ever seen him in the TLOS part of the show I saw, and that was just a few months ago. It isn't always just tour to tour or year to year ... not even show to show. Sometimes it's minute to minute.

Yeah at my show in Chicago he seemed pretty on the ball and was even cracking jokes. He espcally came alive during LOS, but when I saw him on Conan a few days later it looked like he had aged 10 years and gained 10 pounds. A BIG difference.

God Only Knows... California Girls... took him quite some time to get Good Vibrations done...

Maybe Jeff had already sensed that Brian didn't want to talk about anything that day.

Is it just me, or was he VERY condisending toward Brian? I didn't like how he repeated every single thing Brian said. It was like he was talking down to him.

Yeah, he's talking to him like he's a little kid.

I know nothing of Jeff, but I dislike him for that creepy ass vacant stare he has on his face during the entire Smile DVD performance. *shudders*

Agree.  He never really seems like he feels the music when he's singing..

I don't get the feeling that Jeff's making fun of Brian here - he just appears to be acting goofy.  It seems to me that both he and Brian are tired of having to do yet another NAMM interview (he references a previous night's interview at one  point), and he's giving attitude more toward the interviewer than anything else.

Brian is great here!  Love the end when the interviewer asks him about the whole instrument renting/parents out of town story:

"Noo, no no no!  We rented bass and drums...the piano we'd had since I was 12!"

You crack me up Brian!  Cheesy

One interesting aspect is that it's so close in time to the Gibson guitars live performance that engenders such a gloom-and-doom reaction. It's more evidence (as if we need it) that Brian's attitude or behavior or state of mind isn't something so easily broadly generalized: there are good and bad times for him. (It's just that his bad may be lower than most of ours.)

Don't know if this was posted before, it's also from the Gibson guitar center. Brian play a little on a Fenderrhodes I believe:

Brian's record singing at the Guitar thing was one of the most highly attended.

Read that on some blog.

Just so everyone is clear, the clip I shot which Rocker posted a few up was not shot at the "Gibson Guitar Center", it was shot at the Hollywood Guitar Center, which is on Sunset Blvd.   There is no such thing as the Gibson Guitar Center.  The clip of Brian playing the Rhodes piano was from the same private photo shoot/interview session.

Thanks for those clips, Jay. Always been a huge fan of this particular rendition of Oakie From Muskogee, very punchy (as opposed to the drowsy version they did with the Grateful Dead) and Mike really shines as the frontman.

I don't know if this was posted before, but it's the first time I've seen an official video for this (apart from the promo for the album proper in June 2008). I'm strong enough to admit I was a little misty-eyed by the end of it...

"Little Pad" cover by a strange unknown band, but they actually do a good job all things considered: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qQ2WhE-r0aY. A little weird, but it warms my heart to see people performing that song in public...
