Don't know if this has been posted here yet or not, but I love this cover of God Only Knows:

Brian singing Wouldn't it Be Nice from 1989. Never heard him on lead for this song during this period (unless I'm not looking hard enough. It was usually Carl at this time right?)

The video itself isn't that interesting but funny how childish the poster is defending the Beatles and more interesting is that so many people voted for the Beach Boys.  Smiley

I wonder if there is a pre-recorded track including a pre-recorded Brian vocal, because he sure doesn't seem to be singing live (yet some of the others do seem to be live). Note the way he keeps turning his head away from the mic.

The guy defending the Beatles is either a young kid, has an anti-Beach Boys inferiority complex, is an idiot, or is any combination of all three.

I stopped reading after he tried to compare Abbey Road and SMiLE. Two completely different albums kid.

Oh, and it is possible to like both. That seems like a concept way too advanced for him.

And yet a concept that seems to escape people around here all too often, too, as if liking something that isn't related to the BBs or BW somehow invalidates your love or appreciation for them. You wouldn't think it would be such a tough thing to grasp, but it sure seems to be.

Thanks for sharing. Midnight's Another Day actually had me laughing out loud. There's few people in the world with a sense of humor as funny as Brian Douglas Wilson's.

Brian's voice sounds excellent here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGscY_tga3w

It seems like (when I've seen him perform) he really makes an effort on God Only Knows to sing very sweet and in tune.

What's the matter with DW's voice in this 1981 Long Beach footage? You can hear him yell something from time to time, like "Everybody!" or what sounds like "I love Shawn" and to me it sounds completely different from what he would sound like four years earlier AND two years or so later (in the American Band footage of his "last" BB concert). It doesn't have too much of a rasp to it, does it?

Well on Superbowl Sunday 1981 January 25th Rocky and Stan beat him up and he never talked or sang right after. By 1983 he had some surgery which he hadn't let heal so he sounded worse.

Is this Rocky Pamplin on lead?

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

At first I thought it was Brian.  But the more I listen to it I think it might be Rocky.  Then again, I have no idea what Rocky's voice sounds like.

I heard it a small while back and was surprised at how well Rocky could sing on this cut. Eons better than the awful 1978 BB version, with one of Carl's all-time vocal lows. Still the Rocky version is nothing too great. IMHO the song never realized it's potential, though I'd DIE to hear the 1974 version with Brian on lead. Hell, it might be one of my three wishes if I ever meet the genie.

I like the Beatles a bit more than the Boys of Beach, I think Brian's band is the tops---really amazing. And finally, I'm liberal. That's it.

Don't wish for something that specific. Say "I wish every unreleased Beach Boys tape gets made public." Don't you want to hear Wouldn't It Be Nice to Live Again, too?

Really? I liked the '78 version too. It sounds like it would fit perfectly on Adult Child with Carl's take on "Everybody Wants to Live". Carl was going through strange times that year, at least judging by his voice.

People, wish #1 is "I wish for unlimited wishes." Then the rest is irrelevant because you never run out. C'mon, folks, this is Genie Wishing 101.
