Favorite Beach Boys instrumental - "The Nearest Faraway Place"
I also like Brian Wilson's "In My Moondreams", even though it has some wordless vocals ala "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow".
Two good oldie instrumentals are "Classical Gas" by Mason Williams and "Soulful Strut" by Young-Holt Unlimited.

Blue Rondo a la Turk- Dave brubeck quartet.
Wild Weekend, The Rebels
Great selections! There are a lot of great ones and many have wrongly become obscure. Rock: Link Wray - "Rumble" The Lively Ones - "Surf Rider" Duane Eddy - "South Phoenix" Jimi Hendrix - "The Star Spangled Banner" Frank Zappa - "Peaches En Regalia" Jazz: John Coltrane - "Equinox" Miles Davis (sextet) - "Blue In Green" Oliver Nelson - "Stolen Moments"

the beatles' flying is only a little above par of Passing by, only because it has all the beatles' on vocals...otherwise, i'm a bigger fan of passing by...actually when i think of instrumentals of the beatles, i think of that one they recorded around rubber soul, cant remember what it was called, it was just a jam really

- "Pet Sounds" as performed by BW's band on August 12, 2005
- Henry Mancini's "The Party" as performed by Wondermints (although the last verse is vocal)
- "Follow Your Bliss" -- B52s, basically "Let's Go Away For Awhile" and "Pet Sounds" rolled into one
- "Misirlou" as performed by Bobby Fuller Four, incorporating "Hava Nagila"
- "I Am Spartacus" by Del Paxton and Guy Patterson
- There's a really raucous version of "Stoked" performed by a girl group -- I think they call themselves Beach Girls -- that I found on youtube.com...really diggable!
- "Emotions" by Love
- "Rockestra Theme" by Wings (although there are a few vocals)

'Wonderful Land' by The Shadows - a wonderfully haunting and evocative piece of pre-Beatles UK guitar pop. 'Atlantis' by the same combo is superb also. I can almost forgive them Cliff Richard. Almost...

Montreux Theme - Yes (avaliable on Yessyears '91 boxed set and the Going for the One remaster) Clap (Studio version) - Yes (This is the official title of the piece, Jon Anderson mistakingly used to introduce it at 'The Clap' and it stuck. The studio version avaliable on the Yes Album remaster includes a rough early version of what later became Mood for a Day) Peace Frog (live at the Aquarius Theatre) - The Doors (The only proper instrumental ever done by the Doors unless you count the jam at the end of The Mosquito on Full Circle. I can't believe the Doors didn't think to do a jazzy instrumental piece on either of their albums after Jim died. Jim said in interviews that's what he thought the Doors should do if he stayed in Paris for a long time or got locked up in jail, cut an album of instrumentals and maybe try and get on the Jazz festival circut) Black Napkins - Frank Zappa Watermellon in Easter Hay - Frank Zappa What's New in Baltimore - Frank Zappa Apostophe - Frank Zappa Eat That Question - Frank Zappa The Dark Side of the Mushroom - The Chocolate Watchband Miserlou - Dick Dale Experiment in Terror - The Ventures Come in Number 51 Your Time is Up - Pink Floyd (shorter more intense variation on Careful with that Axe Eugene from Zabriskie Point soundtrack) Anything by Mogwai The Process of Weeding Out EP - Black Flag
