Dear friends, help me name my new band, a standard indie-pop (for lack of a better quick description) quartet of drums-bass-guitars-organs that will play primarily my original songs, maybe with the occasional cover tossed in. Some suggestions we've tossed around today include those below, but I don't care. And mostly, I want to get this figured out. I barely care. Have your choice selected and I will give you a cut of all future riches (aka debt) from our shows and recordings.

The Beau Mondes
Bill the Drummer
C. Thomas Pow
The Cat's Pyjamas
The Fire Tapes
Say Dada
Schaedenfreude
See More Glass
The Semantics

Or suggest your own. Whatever.

The Beau Mondes (Cool. But hey, I'm French  Cheesy)
Bill the Drummer (I just don't like it)
C. Thomas Pow (Who?)
The Cat's Pyjamas (Why not... We've seen worse, plus, the idea of a cat wearing pyjamas somehow makes me laugh)
The Fire Tapes (Too "cliché")
Say Dada (You wouldn't be taken seriously!)
Schaedenfreude (Um, no. I can't manage to pronounce it.  Undecided)
See More Glass (Cool name idea. Where does that come from?)
The Semantics (I like this one. The best of your list IMO)

I could have suggested a name, but I'm keeping it for my own band  Grin

I hope my selection will be helpful, and good luck!  Smiley

C. Thomas Pow (Who?)
Joke on the name of C. Thomas Howell, an actor in horrid 80s movies. I don't know why Pow instead of Howell. My friend suggested it. I laughed.

Say Dada (You wouldn't be taken seriously!)
Hardly my biggest concern! But nobody else likes it either, so...

See More Glass (Cool name idea. Where does that come from?)
A JD Salinger short story, "A Perfect Day for Bananafish," in which a little girl mispronounces the name "Seymour Glass" to her mother.

Thanks for the thoughts. I look forward to anyone's, too. I want to get this figured out within a day or so.

The Cat's Pyjamas sounds like a good name for a "standard indie-pop quartet". Lots of those names are pretty annoying, especially Bill the Drummer and The Fire Tapes.

Lots of those names are pretty annoying...

I live to annoy. Well, not TO annoy, but I do annoy in the process of living.

By the way, I like the name Bill the Drummer, especially since my drummer's name is Bill, and he's in about thirty-fucking-bazillion bands. He's brilliant. He deserves a band name. He's a goshdarn cartoon character, and the second-best drummer I've ever met (to J.T. Bates, a Minneapolis jazz drummer who is brilliant).

Im a little offended...Thomas C. Howell was a GREAT actor. He did such classics as ET, The Outsiders, Sideout & Soul Man.

So take it back!

But seriusly, you could do it like R.E.M. did: take a dictionary, close your eyes and point at a random page.

The game is over and we have a winner, based on my thoughts, some friends' thoughts, some of these posts and, quite frankly, name availability based on some Google searches, etc. The band is...

The Beau Mondes

We'll get a myspace page up with some demos, anyway, in the near future. Thanks for all your comments. If you don't like the name, f*** off.

Shut up, Pete.   Wink

And Joe, Pete is right as to the meaning: fashionable elite...which we are anything but on all counts. Well, we're elitists, but undeservingly so. And we're wholly unfashionable. All around, a perfect name. (Although most of my friends hate it. Luckily, I hate them.)
