May 24 1963 the BBs made their first trip to Sacramento and met promoter Fred Vail, who’d soon work for them. Brian did not make the trip and was replaced by Al.  But Brian was probably present for the show at Inglewood High School on May 26.  May 23 1964 the BBs performed in Portland, Oregon.  Photos of this show are featured in my book with Jon-The Beach Boys In Concert.  May 23 1965 the BBs performed at Cobo Hall in Detroit-with new member Bruce Johnston. Former member Glen Campbell opened for them.  There are some photos of this show on the web. The next day the BBs met up with Brian to record tracks for “The Girl From New York City” and “And Your Dreams Come True” at Western.  They probably also recorded vocals for-“I’m Bugged At My Old Man”, “California Girls”, “You’re so Good To Me” and “Salt Lake City” at Columbia that night. May 24 and 25 1966 the BBs worked on “Good Vibrations” at Sunset Sound.  May 24 1968 the BBs worked on the 20/20 song “All I Want To Do” at Brian’s studio.  On May 26 Brian and the boys did work on “Do It Again”, recorded an exquisite but incomplete version of “Walk On By” and spent time on Brian’s temporary obsession “Old Folks At Home and “Ol Man River.” May 24 1969 the BBs worked on the unreleased “What Can the Matter Be” at Valentine Studios. Two days later they taped inserts for a Radio Show they were doing-some of these were heard on Hawthorne. Brian was absent. May 23 1971 Dennis worked on his beautiful “Wouldn’t It Be Nice To Live Again” at Brother Studio. May 23 1972 the BBs with Blondie and Ricky performed at the Top Rank in Bristol on their UK tour. The next night they played the Dome in Brighton. On May 25 1972 they shot promo films in Brighton for “You Need A Mess of Help” and “Don’t Go Near the Water.” May 23 1975 the BBs performed at Anaheim Stadium with Chicago.  Brian was photographed backstage with his children but didn’t perform.  The following day the Beachago tour played the “Day At the Green” at Alameida County Coliseum in Oakland. May 24 1978 a strings session was held for Dennis’ Bambu tune “It’s Not Too Late.” The following day horns were added to “Under the Moonlight.” May 23 1981 Mike performed at Lake Lanier Islands Presentation Point Amphitheater in Georgia. This was Mike’s first solo show with the Endless Summer Band, which included Jeff Foskett.  During this time period Carl taped an appearance on American Band with his solo band.  His Solid Gold TV appearance aired on May 24 1981. Carl and his band performed “Hold Me” and “Heaven.” May 26, 1981 the BBs-minus Carl and Brian-performed at the televised 4th Annual National Cheerleading Championships at the Fontainebleau Hilton in Miami.  Victoria Principal and Andy Gibb hosted the show. The BBs each introduced themselves. Thus “Hi I’m Mike from Santa Barbara” but Bruce only got out “Bruce from Pacific Palisades, Calif…before Dennis shoved him out of the way and yelled in a hoarse voice “Dennis from Venice”.  They played ‘Be True to Your School” and appeared in the closing credits to sing “Surfin USA.” May 26 1982 Mike and Dean performed at the Forum at Ontario Place, Toronto with the Endless Summer Beach Band.  On the same day in 1983 Mike and Dean played at Adventure Island Park in Tampa, FL. May 24 1984 the BBs performed at the United World College in Montezuma, New Mexico. Than, they played three nights at Pine Knob in Clarkston, MI with Warren Zevon. May 24 1986 Gene Landy met with Gary Usher about working with Brian again- beginning a troubled year of recordings and writing sessions. Gary Usher kept meticulous diaries of the sessions.  May 23, 1987 the Solid Gold TV Show featured a Salute to the 60s with a BBs appearance.  This had been taped at some earlier date as on the previous day the BBs had begun a tour at Metropolitan Park in Jacksonville, FL. On May 24 1987 they were at the Cramton Bowl, Montgomery, AL and Mobile Municipal Auditorium in Mobile, AL. On May 25 1987 they played at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC with Chairmen of the Board and Smylie. May 26 1989 the BBs played in Oakland on their reunion tour with Chicago. May 25 1990 the BBs played at Mile High Stadium in Denver after a Zephyrs game. May 25 1991 the Beach Boys played at a Welcome Home Celebration for Desert Storm troops in Houston.  The following night they were in New York City to play a private show at a wedding held in the Grand Ballroom in the Plaza Hotel. May 22-24 1992 the BBs made their first appearances in Mexico at the Auditorio Nacional, Mexico City. On May 25 1992 they played the Centro de Convenciones, Acapulco. May 26 1994 the BBs played at the Starplex Amphitheater in Dallas.  May 23 1995 the BBs performed at the Ritz Carlton in Maui, Hawaii.  On May 26, 1995 they performed at Cohen Stadium in El Paso, TX. May 24 and 25 1997 the BBs performed at Harrah’s Casino in Nevada.  I believe Carl was there, though showing affects of his illness. May 23 1998 Mike and the California Beach Band played at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Kamuela, Hawaii.  The following year Mike and the Beach Boys were back in Hawaii to play at the Cultural Center in Maui. On May 26 1999 they played at Oasis Water Park in Palm Springs, CA.  May 24 and 25 2001 the BB played at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica, MS.  On May 26 2001 they were at Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS.  The following year they were again in that part of the country playing Beau Rivage on May 24, 25 and 26, 2002. They also performed at the Panama City Marina Civic Center in Panama City, FL on May 26 2002. This seems to have become a tradition as the following year the BBs played at the Grand Casino in Biloxi MS on May 23, 24 and 25 2003. That May 23 a session for City Blues was held in England to have Eric Clapton do guitar overdubs at Olympic Studios. Not sure if Brian was actually there. May 23 2004 the BBs played at The Stage at South Cumberland in Monteagle, TN. May 24 2005 the BBs performed at the Adams Mark Hotel charity event in Dallas TX. On May 26 2005 they appeared at an Amusement Park in Magic Springs AR.  That same day Al appeared at Rampart Casino in Las Vegas. May 26 2006 the BBs appeared at Point Pleasant Beach NJ and at the Trump Plaza Hotel And Casino, Atlantic City NJ.  The following year the BBs were in Lake Charles, Louisiana on May 24 and 25 2007 and in 2008 they appeared on the same days at the Peppermill Concert Hall in Nevada.  They were at Mandalay Bay Casino in Vegas on May 24 2009.  Al played a private show in San Francisco on May 26 that year.  May 25 and 26 2012 the reunited BBs played shows in Chula Vista, CA and Indio, CA. May 24-26 2013 the BBs were in Nebraska, Iowa and Ohio.  In May 2014 they were in Ohio, Kentucky and Florida. This year Brian is playing the Apollo in Manchester tomorrow and in Edinburgh on May 26!
