Anybody know why the side of a red car was the cover of the album?

it's about the only cover I don't like.  I even prefer 'still cruisin' artwork over this one.
of course the guys were in a lost period commercially but it's such a great album of music.
I can't even think of an any appropriate artwork for this album when the band are called
'the beach boys' and the songs are so far removed from the early things.
beautifully recorded too.

Funny...I remember reading a review which said the cover was great, but the songs were weak!

You need (everyone needs!) to download Malcolm C Searle's series of PDF books about the Beach Boys' album cover art. Amazing body of work that keeps on giving.

Volume 2 covers this album and tells you pretty much everything!

I'm both surprised and not surprised that this exists, but couldn't be happier that it does.

It's verging on Hollywood camp. Maybe not as bad as KTSA, though.

Fantastic stuff, Malc--I think you ought to be able to do land-office business for bound versions of these! Superb layout and design...do you do this stuff for a living? If not, you certainly could! Kudos!!

Thanks ! No, I don't do it for a living but if I had the opportunity...
Currently working on the update of my Bread biography, coming out soon in paperback, but after that  I may well try something similar to my BB project...

I always wondered how many potential buyers that album cover confused.  Like wondering who CATP were and maybe not noticing even that it was a BB's album.  Also wondered considering its contents if the band itself was not subconsciously trying to avoid association with this album!  Whatever merits you may assign to the individual songs, some of which I like a lot, some of which I don't, it surely has to be the most disjointed assemblage of tunes in their regular album discography!
