I was reading a Harry Nilssom Biography by Alyn Shipton and found a quote from Jimmy Webb. Webb walked into Harry's session for Salmon Falls and found Harry, Van Dyke, Brian, Danny and Dolenz.
It's on page 188

Anyway I'll attached a photo of the quote hopefully it works

Strange but true - I was at grammar school with Alyn Shipton.

I'll just transcribe it

Jimmy Webb dropped in on the recording:
"Salmon Falls." I remember the night I heard that song, I was shaken by the power of that thing. But this particular night it was chaos. There were steel drums all over the place, and a bunch of saxophone players because he didn't appear to have a clue as to what they were suppose to be doing. Somewhere in the back of the studio Brian Wilson was noodling on a b3 apparently trying to sing da Doo Ron Ron in counterpoint to whatever else was going on, and I don't know what Danny and Micky Dolenz were doing. So this jolly crew is going at it hammers and tongs as I walk into the studio. And I am amazed as I sit down, mouth slightly agape, and watch this for about fifteen or twenty minutes as Van Dyke Parks is trying to hum the parts of the orchestration to the players and keep them all organised. I finally turn to Harry who was sitting next to me and said "Harry, why don't you write this down?" And he turned at me with a look of sublime contempt and said, "You would say that!"
