New album by Willie!

Willie Nelson's new album of pop standards, penned by America's legendary songwriting duo George and Ira Gershwin, follows the selection of Willie as the 2015 recipient of the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

Among the 11 Gershwin classics recorded by Willie Nelson for his new album are two duets: "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" with Cyndi Lauper (the song was originally introduced by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in the 1937 film Shall We Dance) and "Embraceable You" with Sheryl Crow (the song was performed by Ginger Rogers in Girl Crazy, recorded by Billie Holiday in 1944 and inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2005).

Summertime: Willie Nelson Sings Gershwin hearkens back to Stardust, the 1978 blockbuster album of pop standards that secured Willie's reputation as pop balladeer (in addition to his status as one of the architects of outlaw country music).

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

This will be a great album.  Stardust is one of the best albums of the past 50 years and he's better now than he was then...

glad to see others have great taste.
Willie is recording the best stuff ever these days.
Some of his recent albums are fantastic, and not
getting the recognition they deserve.
Spoze we will have til wait til he dies to appreciate
what a 'f'n' legend this guy really is.
Keep the country thread stuff comin' Ron.
 I like your taste.

Have all of you seen "I never cared for you" ?   I always thought that was the best thing he'd ever done.

One of my favorites by Willie. He originally recorded it in the 60s (there's a live version on TV from back then on youtube IIRC) and in the 80s (A horse called music). This one comes from the interesting '98 album "Teatro".

I'm quite excited for the Gershwin album. Brian's was such a triumph mostly and having Willie, one of the greatest and most distinctive stylists of the 20th century imho, record these great songs will certainly be not less of an achievement. In the last months and years Willie sometimes sounded a little weak to my ears (in live videos) and I was afraid it would mean that his voice would get lost. But these two samples show him in fine voice.

Wilie just recorded a new song that he wrote after death rumours made the net. It's called "Still not dead again today":
