Surf's Up 'demo' with strings

my favorite version but always seems a bit empty after a lot of the other very densely arranged songs
I've done a very rough partial test to fill it out a bit
needs loads of refining but I think it could work quite well

That's awesome. I was actually attempting (and still am) an alternate later version of "Surf's Up" for Wild Honey. I'm not finished yet but so far I've tried overdubbing the "Water Chant" from "LTSD" to the ending vocal part. It definitely doesn't sound perfect but it's interesting.

Or maybe they'd leave it up if you give the file a misleading name? I'd love to hear it with strings, that song yearns for strings. I'm unhappy with the 1971 cobbled together version, they just should have overdubbed strings.

I did bounce it twice to AIF and back to mp3 but it still comes up with the copyright tags - they must be embedded in the coding - I'll have to join a file sharing site
not finished H&V as been too busy and it takes forever - I'll try to do some more soon
cheers

Not trying to steal this topic away from OP, but here's my version of Surf's Up, featuring the orchestral section from 2004. I got it from a mix from the youtube user bruiteur, but here I replaced the first and coda parts of his mix (which featured the instrumental track from BWPS) with the stereo mix of the Smile Sessions version. I also added some reverse-fade acapella vocals over the fade as well, it sounds really good in my opinion! Tell me what you think!

This is my favorite fanmix of a SMiLE song in quite some time. Well done. The only thing that's missing is the "talking horns" (which I am convinced would've been in the second "movement" of the song.)

Thank you so much! And yeah, I tried overdubbing the talking horns over the coda at one point, but they weren't loud enough to be heard over the vocals. And when I tried increasing the volume of the horns to actually hear them, that ended up sounding way too jumbled with everything else happening in the coda. So I instead did a much more "stripped-down" alternate version of the song, using only the original 12/66 piano demo with the horns playing over Brian's wordless vocal coda. It worked out really well i think, the horns sound like they're crying, it sounds very mournful and emotional!
