Lately, iv'e been starting to listen to a lot of Música Popular Brasileira (MPB). Any other fan of this genre/era and if so, do you have any recommendations?

These I really like:

Edu Lôbo - Gloria

Caetano Veloso - Triste Bahia

And of course, this:
Clube da Esquina

They're more a straight rock band than strictly MPB, but their influence on MPB is immense.

It wasn't so long ago that I was extolling the genius of Marcos Valle on this message board, but here I go again. His ear for melody is right there with Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach. If you haven't tried him yet, please do yourself the favor of checking this out:

Marcos Valle (Quarentão Simpático) (1970), Mustang Cor De Sangue (1969), Previsão do Tempo (1973) are all top shelf from the same period as Garra. I think all of his albums are worth hearing though if you're into this stuff.

Chico Buarque - Retrato em branco e preto

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCJARtrafkY

Chico Buarque is required listening for any MPB fan. On par with Dylan as far as lyrics go. Also probably the most censored songwriter in Brazil during his career in the 1960s and 1970s.

Chico Buarque & Milton Nascimento - Cálice

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV4vAtPn5-Q

Probably Chico's best song and the one with the darkest lyrics by far.

Check out this compilation:

Tropicalia: Ou Panis Et Circenses

I keep it handy.

I second Clube Da Esquina.

No idea what he's saying but a very spiritual feel.
