Why hasn't the United States Postal Sevice issued a Beach Boys commemorative stamp? I get that for most of the bands history, the USPS guidelines meant living persons could not be honoured, but those rules changed some time ago. You would have thought 2012 would have been an excellent time for issue. What gives?

This is uncanny.  I was just at the post office today, looking at all the stamps, and wondering why there has not been a Beach Boys stamp.  Who can I contact to lobby for this.  After all, they were "America's Band".

Great idea but with myKe luHv's ego the stamp would envelop the entire envelope.  Cheesy

A petition would be great.  I'm also going to write in using the link.  With some of the stamps I've seen, this should be a no-brainer.

Australia too (at least I'm assuming these are Australian, and that they're kosher… seller has many different designs):

While the seller is in Oz, I don't think these are AU stamps; which are usually have "Australia (price)", and a picture/illustration of something definitively Australian, like a Cockatoo, Don Bradman, or Queen Liz & family.

The franking amount is a bit odd, not that I'd know much about stamps (or much else).

I don't think they're pukka postage stamps at all. There's no country name, or even a hint of one.

Originally, the excuse would be that most of them were alive but the USPS eliminated that rule a few years back.

How about a line of coke, a bottle of booze and a photo of a courtroom ? That about sums it up !

I initially thought that, but I wouldn't go with that one for the sole purpose that Al isn't on it.

Maybe the picture of Brian, Carl, Dennis, Al, Mike, and Bruce that was used for Endless Harmony.

Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holliday, and the Beatles have all had U.S. Postage stamps.  None of them could boast a clean drug test.   I'm actually quite offended that the Beach Boys haven't had a stamp yet.

Those four artists you mention all either died young or, in the case of The Beatles, broke up while they were in their prime.

I'm thinking one of the reasons The Beach Boys were overlooked was that they've continued to exist in one shape or form for the last 55 years.

I'm not saying it's right, or that I agree with it, but that seems to be the logic in place.

**On a side note, I also think that's why The Who and Deep Purple don't get the acclaim or adulation showered on Led Zeppelin.

I think you are right as far as the group still 'in existence' so to speak. Take a look at the stamps here and there is a definite correlation.

Another artist who fits the bill IMO is Dylan although he, and others, are now permitted but I don't think it has happened (Dylan).

Thank you for the explanation as to why they haven't gotten a stamp yet.  I'm not quite as offended now as I was.  Maybe my letter will be so convincing, it will change the U.S. Postal Service Stamp Committee's misguided logic!   Wink

One more angle may be to contact Congresswoman Maxine Waters, as it appears she represents Hawthorne, California. Otherwise Senators Boxer and Feinstein.

What they also should do is have a stamp showing Dennis circa 1970 on a "Forever" stamp.  LOL

The sunflower photo would be cool, might be the wrong 'look' though since it's not surf themed...

something like THIS would be fantastic, I think....
