Likewise with "Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl" - extra verse and all.

Brian's cover of Carl's Heaven. I don't think it has been released anywhere else, but I could be wrong.

Brian's cover of Carl's Heaven. I don't think it has been released anywhere else, but I could be wrong.

"Heaven" was included on an "ESQ" exclusive CD. Can't remember if that was before or after it appeared on Brian's website. Either way, the ESQ CD is likely not easily or cheaply tracked down, and you can still get it on Brian's website.

There are several Christmas-related tracks ("The Christmas Song", etc.), most of which can still be found grouped together on a "Christmas" page on Brian's site. That page also includes a couple non-Xmas-themed songs that must have been put up around the holidays, including Brian's take on "Heaven."

I think one of these was released on CD - on a compilation for the Sydney festival that Brian played, from memory Jan 2008. I may be wrong.

There was the "instrumental" and "vocal only" versions of On Christmas Day. They weren't released on CD. The regular version obviously was.

Was it on one of the ESQ discs?

The Gershwin demos weren't by Brian. They were the files provided by the Gershwin estate to Brian of the songs that became "Nothing But Love" and TLIILY.

The complete list of website-only tunes. There were a few other Christmas items, but they appeared on WIRWFC.

2000

On Christmas Day (sessions)
On Christmas Day (track)

(Note -- there was no Christmas Day vocals only mix)

2004

White Christmas (with members of Styx on vocals)

2007

Midnight's Another Day (demo)
Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl (demo)
The Christmas Song (Mel Torme cover)

2008

Heaven (Carl cover)

2011

Silent Night (Brian with his kids)

Indeed. The real shock is that the "final" version -- which is largely the same BW vocal (and likely instrumental parts) -- could fall so short of the demo.

I think the "On Christmas Day (track)" included backing vocals too.

You are correct sir - "MAD" was released on a promo for a Sydney music event, but you couldn't buy it. It came as a freebie if you bought a regular CD.

Yes, on a  ESQ CD.

Is this ESQ CD entitled "That Lucky Old Sun - a narrative by Brian Wilson.  demo version and other rare tracks", per chance?

Also, are the x-website tracks still kicking around anywhere online (other than YouToob)?  I would imagine these tracks are not "boots" per se, as long as a body didn't charge for their distribution.

"Heaven" was released (with the permission of Bri-Mel) on the bonus CD included with the Summer 2008 Dennis Wilson: ONLY WITH YOU issue.  The issue/CD are still in print and available from us:

Um... pardon me for pointing out the obvious, but the tracklisting clearly states all titles are "(Live At The AOL Studios)". Therefore... not demos of any hue. Don't believe me, then listen to the samples.

Scott & Brian's original demos for TLOS have been on the collectors circuit pretty much since 2008. A deluxe release of TLOS featuring those demos and a few of the original versions (i.e. the proto-"California Role" "Wondering What You're Up To Now") would be much appreciated.
