Hey there. This question is for people who had the original 1990 Pet Sounds CD. Does anybody know if "Trombone Dixie" and "Hang on to Your Ego" were in stereo or mono?

And then after that, which version of "Hang on to Your Ego" is on this disc? Is it the one with the demo vocals from just Brian?

And "Trombone Dixie"? Same thing as what was on The Pet Sounds Sessions? Same exact mix?

Any help would be awesome! Thanks.

Both are in mono and EGO is the demo vocal with Brian's comment about bringing a horse into the studio.

Mono or stereo...I love Trombone Dixie...on the sessions.  Love

Yeah, that 1990 CD is 100% mono. The Mrs. and I just listened to it a few days ago. Same exact disc I got for Christmas on 12/24/1990 and listened to in the dark, with headphones, before I went to sleep. (yep, first time I ever gave Pet Sounds a real listen and I knew how to "hear everything" long before Brian made his famous suggestion.) And it still plays perfectly 25 years later, so to all of you who say that CDs degrade even if you properly store them: NYAAAAA!

Can anyone point me at any release which includes a finished stereo version of "Ego" please?

I found a site promising an MP3 download of a "true stereo remix" of "Ego". Unfortunately, it then started bombarding me with hard porn and other compromising stuff so I had to force quit. The perils of surfing the net...

There's always this, I suppose:

Many thanks John, I think I've visited one of two sites like that in the past in search of rarities! I'm 200 miles from home at the mo so have no way of double-checking my collection; am I right in misremembering that we've yet to have a legit finished stereo release of Ego?

It does seem that way. Maybe one of the few experts left can confirm...

Thanks again John,

I'm one of those who regard PS as something of a soundtrack to my life; letting go of my libido will no doubt be the last (or next) phase.

Anyways, this all makes this Japanese SHM stereo/mono release of more interest than I'd first assumed, so long as the listings given at both sites are accurate:

As far as I can tell, outside of "Japan exclusive" tracks, usually for new album releases, weird Japan pressings (SHM, Blu-spec, etc.) of old albums have never housed unique mixes of vintage tracks.

Whatever is on the PS Japan SHM CD, I'm guessing it's something that has already been released elsewhere.

Thanks for this. I wondered if it was a typo in the listing but that didn't seem likely for both… will report back when it arrives!

Yup, it's mis-listed as stereo. Ego is mono; the release is essentially the '01 mono/stereo reissue that sandwiched a mono Ego between mono and stereo version, Mike fly-in on the WIBN bridge.

At least I have (another) copy for the car!
