Who played on the backing tracks on songs like Darlin' and Time To Get Alone?
The Beach Boys?
Redwood?
Session players?

I'm assuming The Beach Boys would've overdubbed some additional instrumentation on these tracks, but I want to know who played the backing tracks that BW would have handed over.

I've heard the session tapes & have copies of the AFM contracts: it's Brian and various "Wrecking Crew" musicians - although for "Darlin'", Carl was there, actually playing drums off-mic (besides him, it was just Brian and bassist Ray Brown on the basic track). Then, Hal Blaine added "real" drums later, probably about the same time the horn section was added.

So it's Hal Blaine drumming on "Darlin'"? I remember several years back I was in a discussion (can't remember if it was here) where I was being kind of lambasted for suggesting it wasn't Dennis drumming. Not trying to knock Dennis' drumming, which I've always dug I think more than some snobby music folks, but that particular song just always sounded a little too smooth and precise for Dennis' playing style.
