Partial Beacon NYC setlist here ( http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/brian-wilson/2016/beacon-theatre-new-york-ny-63fdf6fb.html ) suggests Our Prayer/H&V may have resurfaced tonight. Hoping it's true and someone didn't just cut and paste from an old setlist.

When Brian is swearing and is showing a lot of energy on stage, it usually means he's in a good mood and having a really good night.

He was like this all the way back in 2000 when I saw him on the PS tour. He did the "how loud can you yell?" bit, but kept going and eventually was yelling out "how loud can you f*ckin' yell?"

I f*ckin' love when Brian curses in jest. Seriously!

What's charming about it all is that I think he feels daring when he does it.  He has this sweetness, along with a wicked humor side that pretty much engages everyone - well, who isn't jealous.  There's that problem.

Has anyone found a YouTube vid of "Wild Honey" from the Atlanta show on Sept. 9th? I've been seeking, but so far, no luck.

If that is the case, then wow. That is absurd. A person spends $500 and they can't even get a thing or two from their own collection signed!? Pure greed.

It's disappointing, but I'm not seeing the additional greed in it.

Agreed.  I'm seeing people posting photos showing personal items that have been signed up through last night around the net, so I'm guessing this is a non-issue - but greed? - even if you'd be limited to the stuff included in the package - well, it's included in the package.  How could that be logically considered greed?

We've discussed "VIP Packages" in the past. I have very mixed feelings about it. I personally find it weird to pay money, to have my card charged, specifically for the privilege of getting to meet someone. I don't tend to do those VIP things; can't particularly afford it and I'm not super into needing to meet these guys. Get an interview with them? I'd love to do that! Awkwardly stand in line to say hi and get an autograph for a significant upcharge? Not my thing particularly. For those who dig it, that's cool.

It sounds like the "rules" for autographs at these VIP show events are much like "in-store signings." The rules are sometimes less or more loose, and sometimes they don't want people bringing outside stuff and either slowing things down or, in the case of a record store signing or something, they want people to buy whatever the new product is.

I imagine there isn't a huge market for *successfully* flipping Brian or Al autographs. They're just not that rare, unless the item is really epic or rare itself (and I'd argue if you had like an original "Smile" cover slick or something and had Brian sign it, it might actually *devalue* it, but I digress). So I would certainly hope they let people get a few things or whatever sort signed, within reason.

I don't think we should necessarily rant about greediness on the part of artists, but the "VIP" thing certainly isn't my *favorite* thing they do. I'm not a big fan of it. I get why artists do it. It's easy money, a huge surcharge for relatively little extra work. They already do a soundcheck anyway, so that isn't extra effort. They really just have to take the time to do the meet and greet thing. It's *a lot* of extra money. Good for them. I guess I don't need to call them greedy, but it's certainly not something I'm going to pat them on the back for.

Didn't Brian used to hang around after shows and sign autographs? That's worth some extra praise. Offering deluxe VIP packages? I'm pretty neutral on that.

Ooh, ooh. You made my day.
Figured he might make it down to New Orleans but feared he'd be at JazzFest again.
The Saenger Theater is our "crown jewel" venue. Incredible acoustics, absolutely gorgeous.
Now I might even cave in to my Mom's pleas to watch that horrid presidential debate tonight!   Grin

It's certainly starting to look like they might end up doing a full-on additional leg of touring early Spring-ish next year.

It'll be interesting to see how many show are in markets/venues he didn't hit this year versus return visits. Probably of course both.

I apologize for starting any confusion.. it's possible I just read my e-mail too fast.

I just went back to it today and it says "Personal memorabilia may not get signed in addition to package contents."

Clearly this means, to me, that we can have personal stuff signed, just not AS WELL AS the other stuff they give you.
Meaning, these guys aren't going to sign everything you want--which makes total sense.

Sorry.. my show is coming up Friday and I bought the tickets in late January.. So I've been thinking about
meeting Brian all year.. When my e-mail came I just apparently zoned in on that one line and jumped to
the wrong conclusion.

In the same boat and read it (or misread it) the same way. I'll be bringing a personal item (or two), as I've heard some people say they were able to swap two personal items for the two giveaways. During the No Pier Pressure tour, the rule was you got the Love & Mercy lyric sheet signed and one additional "small" item.

I'll be sure to give a full review of the soundcheck, VIP meet & greet and the show. In my opinion, if you are smart, the VIP option is a good value (at worst, it's a break even proposition)--I would be happy to share my math via PM if anyone is on the fence about buying the VIP experience for an upcoming show.

Brian's website often (but probably not always) posts links and notices about pre-sales.

Saw Brian tonight at Oakdale in Wallingford, Conn. I had seen him solo in 2000, 2001 (full Pet Sounds) and 2012 as part of C50. In 2012, Brian was in very good voice singing and sang a lot of leads, but I don't think he said a single word. Obviously Mike was the MC of that show, but Al talked a fair amount and David and Bruce spoke a little, but Brian never talked. I guess he loosened up on the tour.

Tonight, Brian's vocals were very rough and strained in spots, and a couple of times he missed words, but he talked a lot and seemed in a good mood.

The setlist (I believe) was:

California Girls
Dance Dance Dance
I Get Around
Shut Down
Little Deuce Couple
In My Room
Surfer Girl
Don't Worry Baby (Matt NAILED it, and got a huge ovation)
Salt Lake City (one of Brian's best vocals of the night, I thought)
Wake The World
Add Some Music to Your Day (again, one of Brian's best)
California Saga: California
Sail Away (I thought it was very good, but a lot of people made a bathroom break)
Wild Honey (Blondie wailing on guitar, very entertaining)
Sail on Sailor (Brian walked off for intermission during the song. Don't know if that's normal)

INTERMISSION

Row, Row, Row Your Boat (good doing it here as people were getting back into their seats from intermission)
Wouldn't It Be Nice (Matt great on Brian's part; Brian OK on Mike's)
You Still Believe in Me (Matt again very good)
That's Not Me (Nice by Brian, including the into: A guy looks in the mirror and says ""THAT'S NOT ME. He also sang it like that once)
Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder)
I'm Waiting For the Day
Let's Go Away For a While
Sloop John B (A loose Brian intro'd it as "something Al Jardine and I cooked up")
God Only Knows
I Know There's An Answer (maybe the best song, both Jardines in great form)
Here Today
I Just Wasn't Made For These Times (part Brian, part Matt)
Pet Sounds (Blondie came out and hammed it up on tambourine)
Caroline No (again, part Brian, part Matt, again Brian walked out early as the band was playing out the song)

Good Vibrations -- no cursing, but Brian asked if we wanted "Bad" or "Lousy" Vibrations. Good job by Brian,
Help Me Rhonda -- It's AMAZING how well Al's voice has aged. He sounded great all night.
Barbara Ann
Surfin' USA
Fun Fun Fun
Love and Mercy -- Brian altered the lyrics a lot, but sang it well with a lot of feeling. Great way to end.

One surprise to me. No Darian, and no Billy Hinsche in his place. Instead it was Debbie Shair on keyboards. Paul Von Mertens said she played with Heart -- "Another Wilson band," as Paul put it. So no Darian, no "Darlin'".

I'm sure we all forgive Brian for vocal shortcomings we wouldn't let slide in other artists, but he deserves a pass. But it was a great show, and it's Brian Wilson and it's "Pet Sounds" -- and a whole lot of other good songs. The band obviously loves him, Blondie seemed like the happiest guy on the tour, and the Jardines are both tremendous.

If this winds up being the last time I see Brian, I will count myself very lucky to see the big man four times. My Brian live many more years. His music will live forever.

in my opinion, Brian's vocals have terribly degraded since the start of the tour.  more flubs, missed words, unclear, and
different vocal phrasing and adlibbing.  He is probably tired and maybe bored at this point.
really found is strange they have added more dates to the tour.
