It will of course be interesting to see how the setlist evolves over 80-plus dates. I would think "Cotton Fields" might come back for the UK. Hopefully it won't bump "Honkin'."

Great, and only six months or so until I get to see this show.

Wait, that's a long time.

Imagine how good and tight they'll be then, with Brian more comfortable and settled.  This was the first night and it was amazing, it appears!

Fair enough. And conversely, I believe the first show of the U.S. Smile tour in '04 was here, so I was on the leading end that time around.

My fingers are crossed to see some of these rarities: Honkin', Funky Pretty, etc. I'd also like to get some NPP stuff. Not that I'm greedy... (Yes, I am greedy.)

Promise I won't keep doing this, but how about moving discussion to the actual 2016 tour thread? That way, five years from now people will be able to find the discussion of this show by searching. Nobody will know to search for "Brian blew my mind" when they want to find out how opening night of the tour was.

Exactly what I expected going into this...and that is NOT a bad thing! I still think they need to clear out some of those early hits...sure, keep "I Get Around" but the other car songs? Meh...and "Dance, Dance, Dance" has got to go, go, go......

Still, this is incredible that this is happening with these guys in 2016. Wishing them much love and mercy as it is a LONG road ahead this year!

"Dance Dance Dance" for some reason often gets played too slowly. Not sure why. That's one that often gets rotated out as a tour progresses, though.

Brian hits the stage in a couple of hours!  New Zealand is the kickoff.  he has a touchdown photo on his website, he is looking pretty cool at 74.
have a good show Bri.

edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibw6UJzEWXA

does anyone have access to this?

Yes!  Thank you for the heads up!  6h50m to go.

Can anyone easily grab the stream?

If anyone is waiting on this, March 26th was yesterday in New Zealand.  There won't be any live stream because the concert already happened.  Smiley

Tour program. Mike and Bruce are gone from the SD zoo shoot. Shame the bad blood has come to this.

He probably knows Mike and Bruce would sue him for using their "likeness."

It was everything I'd ever dreamed. Brian was amazing, Al was back in 1965, Matt blew the roof off. I am now an official Blondie disciple. Nothing can top that ever. For those curious aside from Pet Sounds they played:

Wake the World
Honkin Down The Highway
Funky Pretty
Wild Honey
In My Room
Don't Worry Baby (Matt)
Shut Down (Al)
Little Deuce (Al)
Barbara Ann
All Summer Long
California Girls
GV
Heroes and Villains (Bicycle Rider)
Our Prayer (Opened the show, I wept)
Love and Mercy
Surfin USA
One Kind of Love
I Get Around

This is the band that should be called The Beach Boys. They play BB's music and 3 of the core guys are there. It's not a BW solo show, not with Al and Blondie there, and they're not playing BW solo tracks.

I consider myself blessed that I got to see 3 (technically) Beach Boys and some of Brians solo stuff, truly this was such a well thought out setlist.

It'll be interesting to see how much of the PS leads Brian hands off to others on the upcoming tour. Foskett sang "Don't Talk" in its original key on its few 2013 performances. Will Matt sing it in the original key on the upcoming tour? Or will they lower it and have Brian sing it as he did in the past? Will Matt sing WIBN, or will Al? Or Brian? Will Matt fill in some falsetto bits (e.g the end of "Caroline, No")?

Not guaranteed definitive but from memory...

'Don't Talk'     Brian and Matt
'WIBN'           Matt
'Sloop'             Al
'Caroline'        Brian only

others

'Believe'         Brian and Matt
'Thats Not'     Brian and Matt
'Waiting'        Brian and Matt
'GOK'             Brian only
'I Know'         Brian only?
'I Just Wasn't' Brian and Matt (Al during final exchange)

As my wife said, he was doing "God' and 'Caroline' solo no matter what!

I was fairly sure I heard Al sing a verse in I Know There's An Answer?

Yes.  Maybe someday I can share how special this link was.  Perhaps, not.  In any case, many thanks.  It was a perfect treasure to me today.

Edit:  I too, loved Blondie's vocal.  I was one of the lucky ones who heard him with Flame.  He's an amazing talent to this very day.

Oh my - I'm sorry, but nobody sounds this good on the first night of a tour!  But this is Brian's brilliant band - many long-time members who know his every move and nuance, and other members who are intuitively perfect for him - Al, Matt and Blondie.  May I say, I have loved Blondie Chaplin since 1969?  Near perfection out of the gate, it appears.

Oops - how did I miss that quote!?  Thanks OSD.  This band is glorious - saw them last July.  I can't imagine anyone coming close.  And I'm serious.  Look at all the actual BBs who still have talent and make music on this stage, with the family organic sound - gorgeous vocals.  I'm thrilled with this and can't wait to see all the shows I booked.

Looking at that tour schedule I am astounded that BW would take that on at this point.
