Ahead of his time? Narcissistic nonsense? Interesting? Dull? Would he have been an eventual candidate? Office-holder? In what party, if any?

Zappa's politics are very close to my own. Would he have run for office? Maybe, if he lived, but not as part of a major party.

Frank would have made mincemeat out of the current crop of lefties.
The only thing I never agreed with him on was his complete opposition to albums containing warning stickers for explicit language content.
I think he was totally deluding himself into thinking that he ever had a shot of getting into office of any kind, however.

He scorned Bush the elder (not Zappa's most insightful analysis but rather a generic liberal canard) and contrasted Bush's and Reagan's desire "to be remembered" to his own scorn for fame. I have visited Reagan's grave and Zappa's: one can do it on the same day for contrast. Zappa, a great Italian-American artist is a hero of mine; his grave (30 yards or so from Carl's) takes some looking for, but you can find it (it's unmarked).

Nothing political about this. It's a curiosity I came across while reading Linda Ronstadt's wiki page:
