I think so, yes. Take the opening of "River Song" - it was part of the "Ecology" suite of Dennis' that SWD recorded in 1970. But it was incorporated into "River Song", which was recorded from scratch at Brother by Moffitt, in late '73 or early '74, then overdubbed again and again over the next few years.

That was actually the bridge, if you will, between Freckles & P.O.B., was Ecology morphing into River Song.  Once that became an actual complete song, albeit in an early stage, it was off to the races for Dennis composing & generally just playing with riffs he'd been carrying in his head.  He spent hours upon hours at keyboards working out inspirations, sometimes even in a bar or restaurant we would happen to be in
