The new issue of "Uncut" has a great cover story on Paul McCartney's Wings years, a great article on the Kinks' '60s singles, and a great little piece on "Good Vibrations" with new interviews of Brian, Mike, and Alan. But the BEST part is Hal Blaine trading barbs with Carol Kaye over the name "Wrecking Crew"! Carol, of course, claims that name was never used by anyone until Hal's book came out in the early '90s. She says SHE'S the one who got him the book deal, that "it's a lie", and "I think sometimes Hal's memory gets a little off". Hal responds that "The Wrecking Crew was established in the early 1960s", that Carol is "an elderly person who claims The Wrecking Crew was known as 'the clique'" (a great response!), and that "No one, except her, has ever heard of that name". Hal concludes by saying Carol needs to "Wake up to reality" and that she should "Go start your own band!". Well worth the price of admission! By contrast, the long-squabbling Beach Boys display not a trace of acrimony in their interviews!
