That was quick Joe.
Is there a reason for a non Beach Boy to be singing it?

From what I have read, Brian thought that Jack's voice sounded like a tree.

Paul,

Use the search function on the board, there are quite a few threads/debates about this topic. Lots of good info.

Yeah..the story goes that Brian conned Rieley into doing the lead by getting him to do a guide vocal; several takes later Brian shout's out 'that's it! or something after he gets what he wants. This story comes from Rieley himself and should be treated with dose of salt..on the other hand it does sound like the kind of wheeze Brian would pull.

Whether the song was originally meant for Brian himself to sing I'm not sure. VDP is on backing vox.

I wish the song didn't break down in the middle into cheesy sounds.

The organ and lone voice is so fitting until the rest comes in. No wonder why Neil Young loves the song. When that organ kicks in it's like standing on the top of a mountain, looking down with the wind burning your face. Stunning song.

Did it ever occur to you, Cable, how wise and bountiful God was to put breasts on a woman? Just the right number in just the right place. Did you ever notice that, Cable?

I have told the exact same story once on the cabinessence board, only to be corrected by Stephen W. Desper who asked where I had heard that nonsense.

That tale comes from an old Rieley interview which was posted by someone on the old board...oh about 2 years ago. If Steve Desper says it's a pile of poo then it's a pile of poo.
