Wish I had them all to show, but I'm sure there's got to be somebody that has more!

I never thought I'd see Brian Wilson on the same CD as Voivod.

Did you used to work in the industry, or did you find these on the market?

Not in the industry. Some I got from friends in the industry, the rest on the market.

Huh!  yeah, guess what? My collection isn't as organized as it should/could be. So I found a few more.
Maybe if I hadn't  started by including Front/Back/CD more people would contribute?  Oh well.... Is that Eric Burdon I hear crying?

OK, I am going to do this as group photos, as opposed to individual scans.  You'll have to take what you can get...

First up is the advance reviewer promo set for the GOOD VIBRATIONS boxed set.

The review promo consisted of 5 pressed CD's (not CD-Rs) with no graphics on them whatsoever, in plain jewel cases with a white label with a serial number and "DISC # x" on them.  The set also came with a press kit containing photos, color transparencies, a press release, a typed draft of the booklet on 8 1/2" x 11" paper, and a photocopy of the back cover track listing.  In this case the reviewer has cut up the track listing by CD and stuck them inside the jewel cases.

ESQ didn't get one of these; I found it in a local record store.

Next up are Beach Boys album promos and samplers (BB CD single promos and solo promos will come later).

Left to right, top to bottom (manufactured CDs unless otherwise specified):

1. Twofer 14-track sampler CD

2. GOOD VIBRATIONS boxed set single CD sampler

3. PET SOUNDS SESSIONS single CD sampler.  I didn't picture the disc, but there are two variations: the initial withdrawn release has a black-and white image of a tape reel and PET SOUNDS SESSIONS SAMPLER printed graphics in black, green, and white.  These were pressed but never issued, and were either destroyed or warehoused when the box set was delayed for 18 months.  The disc for the second release looks almost identical, but there is also a white copyright warning box screen printed on the disc.  Any version with the tape reel printed on the disc but no wording is a counterfeit.

4. and 5. GREATEST HITS VOL. 1 and 2 Capitol in-house CD-Rs

6. GREATEST HITS VOL. 3 - BEST OF THE BROTHER YEARS advance CD

7. CLASSICS SELECTED BY BRIAN WILSON advance CD-R

8. SOUNDS OF SUMMER advance CD-R

9 PET SOUNDS: 40TH ANNIVERSARY advance CD-R/DVD-R

1. SOUNDS OF SUMMER SINGLES in-store sampler

2. THE WARMTH OF THE SUN advance CD-R

3. US SINGLES COLLECTION full-set advance 2 CD-R

4. US SINGLES COLLECTION sampler CD

5. THE SMILE SESSIONS sampler CD-R

6. EMI THE ESSENTIAL series sampler CD

7. (actually out of place) "Brian Wilson Returns to Capitol Records" DVD-R promo for THAT LUCKY OLD SUN

8. LIVE AT KNEBWORTH advance presentation DVD

THE SMiLE SESSIONS advance reviewer CD-R set:

The set was sent out to a very small set of reviewers as a watermarked physical 5-CD set; most reviewers either received a link to a secure online stream, or received the one-disc sampler.  The discs are individually labeled with a unique serial number and the name of the recipient.  I'm assuming that information is also embedded in the data on the discs.  This set was obtained from a third-party (name and serial number redacted).  There are some differences from the commercial discs -- for example, Disc 2, Track 4 is "Barnyard" with the backing vocals, whereas the track on the release set does not have backing vocals.

PET SOUNDS SESSIONS UK advance CDs:

As far as I can ascertain, a US advance 4-CD set does not exist; media outlets were sent promo cassettes and/or the CD sampler.

SUMMER IN PARADISE promo CD singles:

1. "Hot Fun in the Summertime" advance release.  Note the absence of the Brother Entertainment logo; I believe that this was issued while the BB were still shopping the album to other labels.
2. "Hot Fun in the Summertime"
3. "Forever" (feat. John Stamos)
4. "Under the Boardwalk" (this one is still sealed, which is why I couldn't rotate the disc around for a better picture)
5. "Summer in Paradise" / "Summer in Paradise" (live version)
6. "Summer of Love"

STARS AND STRIPES VOL. 1  promo CD-singles and samplers:

1. "Don't Worry Baby" w/ Lorrie Morgan
2. "Little Deuce Coupe" w/ James House
3. "I Can Hear Music" w/ Kathy Troccoli
4. "Long Tall Texan" w/ Doug Supernaw
5. 6-song sampler with promo sunglasses
6. 6-song sampler without sunglasses (this is actually the rarer version)

The numbering of the SIP CD singles is a mess:
- The advance release of "Hot Fun in the Summertime" is BBPRO-1. " BBPRO 1 01@" is etched on the hub of the disc.  As stated above, no mention of Brother Entertainment anywhere on the CD or jewel case.
- The normal promo of "Hot Fun in the Summertime" is BB PROCD-2 on the label and jewel case, but "BBPRO 1 01@" is etched on the hub of the disc -- so it's the same mastering as above.
- "Forever" is PROCD-3 (without the BB).  But "BBPROCD 3 01@" is etched on the hub of the disc
- "Under the Boardwalk" is BB PROCD-4.  Can't see what's etched on the disc.
- "Summer in Paradise" is PRO CD4 on the label, but "BBPRO CD 4 01%" is etched on the hub of the disc
- "Summer of Love" was a Scotti Bros. release (SBDJ 78033-2)

So both "Under the Boardwalk" and "Summer in Paradise" are PRO CD 4...

More detail on the PET SOUNDS SESSIONS Sampler...

Front and back covers.  From top to bottom:
Original withdrawn 1996 version
Official 1997 version
Counterfeit 1996 version

On the front they are all virtually identical; on the back of the counterfeit the Capitol Records references have been removed.

Inside covers and discs.  Oddly, the interior of the cover is in color on the counterfeit, but in black and white on the legitimate releases:

The jewel case inserts for the legitimate releases are clear, and there is this photo underneath:

Lee, is there anything inherently different between the legit versions & any clues as to why the '96 was withdrawn - that you know of. And thanks for the tip re id'ing the fake!

Nice. And quite a nice collection you have ^^^ there,  I might add; weird that they couldn't get all the numbering straight. IDo you think that's on Navarre or Brother?

Any idea what the 01% or 01@ references?  I notice there's an "A" just a tiny bit farther along on SIP,  a "B" on Hot Fun and  a "C" on my Forever; any idea on that?
