COMMENT:

What are The Contender Songs?  -- the songs rejected by Warner & Reprise for Sunflower. Still a good weekend listening treat.

After several months work by myself and Professor Mike Conner, the contender songs can now be heard as intended and/or rejected on my website.

P.S.  Please post comments on the Desper thread. However, unless you let me know how you liked the Study-Video by posting at the Desper thread, there's not much incentive for releasing further studies. Thanks.

Come on guys, stop talking about Beach Boys breakfast cereal, Beach Boys tatoos, "Summer In Paradise" and how much you don't like gay marriage.

Watch these study videos instead and discuss.

Have listened to the Cabinessence and Vega-tables videos - beautiful stuff, revelatory even. The Heroes and Villains link did not seem to work. Will listen to more when I have a moment.

Thanks for all the hard work, Stephen.

Anyone else listening???

Only someone with the patience and expertise to sit through hundreds of hours of tracking, overdubs & mixdowns could achieve this monumentally impressive endeavor - hat off, repeatedly!

Oh Brian
Thou Art In Hawthorne,
Harmonied Be Thy name
Your Kingdom Come,
Your Steak Well Done,
On Stage As It Is In Studio,
Give Us This Day, Our Shortenin' Bread
And Forgive Us Our Bootlegs,
As We Also Have Forgiven Our Wife And Managers,
And Lead Us Not Into Kokomo,
But Deliver Us From Mike Love.

It floors me to no end that those are the rejected tracks. I mean, were the folks at Warner Brothers just deaf or were they strung out on heroin when they heard these songs?!? The rejects from the BB are several orders of magnitude better than any number of finest efforts from many other bands. That aside, as always Mr. Desper... one word... SUPERB.

This is a good opportunity to ask again— the Susie Cincinnatti single as pictured on the video says "produced by the Beach Boys." The 15 Big Ones credit is given to Brian, as does Steve in his notes on the video. But Best of the Brother Years Vol. 3 credits the production to Al.
If anyone can resolve this, it's Steve.

COMMENT: I  hope to see Brian and Alan in November. I'll ask them for an answer and let you know. ~swd
