I bought this record today for a dollar and it features The Beach Boys (Hite Morgon stuff) some jan and dean, and more (over 20 songs) but one song stuck out for me, there was a Frankie Avalon song called "Muscle Beach Party" whicj sounded VERY familiar to me, then I realized that it is in fact the same song as "Car Crazy Cutie/Pamela Jean" just arranged different. so I looked at the record and it had (Gary Usher, Roger Christian and Brian Wilson), so I went to youtube to look for it but found the version by Annette and not Frankie,,,I thought it was really cool to hear a rarity featuring Brian...Here's the Annette version..

Whoa.  I've heard this song before, but I never made the Pamela Jean connection.

Nice matchup! Funny how the songs got reused/reworked
Here's Frankie's version( Sounds really similar to me) :   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xx4GvbJQp3Q
and here's the Superstocks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O5MqMQ-ASQ

Makes me curious to whether any other BW/GU songs were reworked and haven't been discovered;  Muscle Bustle?

"Surfer's Holiday" from MUSCLE BEACH PARTY was a rewrite of "Ride Away" (which wasn't released until 2013's THE BIG BEAT 1963).

I am a huge fan of Gary Usher and The Superstocks, Muscle Beach Party is one of the finest tracks to emerge from the Surf/Hot Rod era (with one of Gary's best lead vocals)... and I never realised it was a re-write of Car Crazy Cutie/Pamela Jean! But when you listen to it, it becomes crystal clear, that of course it is.

What a great board this is for finding out some great useless facts!

The Superstocks' This Bike Of Mine was similarly a re-working of This Car Of Mine, and I'm pretty sure Dennis' vocals feature on it as well, they sure sound like him.

Today I was fiddling around with this song and listening to all the versions of it.  I just want to post somewhere that Pamela Jean is a totally rippin' track, even for BW standards.  I think that PJ is the best incarnation of this song.  It was released as a single with little fanfare, I think somewhere between Fun, Fun, Fun and I Get Around.  Geez that guy was on fire as a 21 year old.

Here is a link to an alternate version of Pamela Jean that I hadn't heard before today.  Some studio banter and a few extra background vocals that I assume got cut off or buried for the single are what I noticed as new.  https://youtu.be/0canGKvultU

I've always found it odd that the first "wop" is missing from some versions. But I agree, a ripping track.
