For fun, I decided to combine both albums into a single 12-track album and here's what I came up with.

Side A:
Do You Wanna Dance?
When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)
Dance, Dance, Dance
Please Let Me Wonder
Kiss Me, Baby
She Knows Me Too Well

Side B:
California Girls
Girl Don't Tell Me
Help Me Rhonda
Let Him Run Wild
In The Back Of My Mind
And Your Dream Comes True

I think that's a pretty killer single album. I'm sure the track listing could use some shuffling.
Again, this is just a fun endeavor, in no way suggesting that "Today" or "Summer Days" aren't good records but there is some filler.

So, what track list would you come up with?

Here's my quickly assembled version, for what it's worth (like you, I'm not entirely sure of the order of tracks). I've always thought highly of "GTMB" and "DHMLS"----and "ISY" is one of my all-time favourite BB tracks:

Side A:
Dance, Dance, Dance
Please Let Me Wonder
You're So Good To Me
Kiss Me, Baby
Salt Lake City
She Knows Me Too Well

Side B:
Good To My Baby
Girl Don't Tell Me
Let Him Run Wild
I'm So Young
Don't Hut My Little Sister
And Your Dream Comes True

I shoud add that all four "deleted" tracks would still be around as great singles!!

I'm gonna do this similar to the concept of Today. Side one will be Rock N Roll, side two will be more introspective.

1 California Girls
2 Good To My Baby
3 Dance, Dance, Dance
3 Help Me Rhonda
4 Do You Wanna Dance?
5 The Girl From New York City
6 Girl Don't Tell Me

1 Please Let Me Wonder
2 She Knows Me Too Well
3 Let Him Run Wild
4 I'm So Young
5 Summer Means New Love
6 Kiss Me, Baby

I decided to keep the format of Today, as I think that it's a perfect structure for an album that is just before Pet Sounds. Also I've always thought California Girls would be the perfect opener to an offical BB studio album.

Side 1
1. California Girls
2. Let Him Run Wild
3. Good To My Baby
4. When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)
5. You're So Good To Me
6. Help Me, Rhonda (SDSN Version)

Side 2
1. Please Let Me Wonder
2. I'm So Young
3. Kiss Me, Baby
4. She Knows Me Too Well
5. In The Back Of My Mind
6. And Your Dreams Come True

Step right up to The Beach Boys' circus, the best little show in town:

The Beach Boys - 1965

01  Salt Lake City (with the extended bass intro from Hawthorne)
02  Amusement Parks U.S.A.
03  Please Let Me Wonder
04  Do You Wanna Dance
05  You're So Good To Me
06  Dance, Dance, Dance
07  She Knows Me Too Well

08  California Girls
09  Girl Don't Tell Me
10  Let Him Run Wild
11  Help Me, Rhonda
12  Kiss Me, Baby
13  When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)
14  And Your Dream Comes True

Can't keep it to 12 tracks. The Beatles were releasing 13-14 songs on their albums. This clocks in at around 33 minutes. B. Wilson - M. Love's shining hour. Let's take your car and mess around at the park all day!

I think we tend to place too much weight on what The Beatles did. The Beatles threw in the towel in '69. No stamina. What worries me a lot more is that "I'm So Young" has dropped out of the track listing. Why all the hate for this wonderful song?

I love "fantasy" album threads like this.  I cheated a little and selected 13 tracks instead of 12.

Side One

1.California Girls

2. Do You Wanna Dance

3. Help Me Rhonda (SDSN Version of course)

4. When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)

5. Salt Lake City

6. Girl Don't Tell Me

7. Dance Dance Dance

Side Two

1. Please Let Me Wonder

2. Kiss Me Baby

3. She Knows Me Too Well

4. In the Back of My Mind

5. Let Him Run Wild

6. Summer Means New Love

I beg to differ but The Beatles did not break up because they had "no stamina." Would you level the same charge at Brian for quitting the road in the mid-60s?

Sorry, CSM, I was just being facetious. Grin

I would make it a double album Like the "White Album" take off the single version of "help Me Rhonda" (which would end up on a later "Best of" album and then take off  "Bull Sessions" and add a finished version of "Sherry (she Needs me)" and a beach boys version of "Guess I'm Dumb" and add "the little girl (I once knew)" and it would make an almost perfect album.. "I'm Bugged at my old man" would be it's weird track (you have to have at least one weird track per double album lol... think "Wild Honey Pie")

The 1965 Beach Boys album "California Girls", which tells the story of the narrator noticing how a childhood acquaintance named Barbara Ann had grown up nicely, the subsequent rise and fall of their romance and turning to another girl named Rhonda for comfort.

1. California Girls - He's interested in girls, in general. He sees beauty all around him.

2. The Little Girl I Once Knew - They met when she was younger, but he had no eyes for her. But now... whoa!

3. Do You Wanna Dance - he makes his move. Dancing under the moonlight.

4. Barbara Ann - Yes, she did wanna dance and now he's telling others in his excitement, how he went to the dance looking for romance

5. Let Him Run Wild - Whoops. She's already with a guy. But he's cheating on her. By the end of the song, she doesn't need the other guy, he can have his freedom, because...

6. Please Let Me Wonder - ...now here they are together. It would have been worth waiting forever.

7. I'm So Young - our narrator is so excited over this new romance. He's reading to go straight to the wedding chapel.

8. Dance Dance Dance - They're together, he's having fun, but maybe taking her for granted, bragging to others about his chick by his side

9. You're So Good To Me - now doubt is creeping in. How come she is so good to him?

10. Good To My Baby - Others are starting to see problems, but he insists everything if fine. He's not bad, he doesn't treat her so mean. They are happy as a couple could be. Really.

11. She Knows Me Too Well - Now he realizes they are right. He has a weird way of showing his love. He treats her so mean and gets so jealous of the other guys.

12. Kiss Me, Baby - His doubts and jealousy have doomed them. They kiss a little bit and fight a little bit, but then late one night they say it is over

13. Help Me, Rhonda - In the end, our narrator turns to another California Girl for a little fun to help forget Barbara Ann and get her out of his heart.

At least that's the way I see it.
