Can anyone more fluent in 'Van Dyke' translate this??? I don't want to sound condescending, but take heed, TheLazenby; maybe Van Dyke is just trying to save you from falling into vacuous veneration. Not that you would, but... I would agree that he is tired of Smile related questions.
But also, due to his psuedo celebrity status, he may just be tired of all fan base related questions. The email message seems like an automated email response that responds back with a sort of "fill in the name blank" type message. On the other hand, he might just be an enigmatic fellow!
By the way, did anyone watch "Broken Trail" last night on AMC? The credits list Van Dyke Parks and someone else for writing the score to the movie. Sometimes I wonder if Van Dyke is more talented than Brian in some ways, especially when you look at Van Dyke's list of recordings/collaborations.

I dont' see what's weird at all about his response. He likely would find more interesting what you are working on yourself than trying to remember/analyze/discuss stuff he did in a drug induced haze close to forty years ago. I'd be complimented that he showed an interest.
