Lovely read, a must for everybody. So cool to see that legendary routine described with such detail and charm. What a great man Brian is. The gasoline dialogue is a treasure, as funny and quirky as the Norbit quote.

Stopped at B&N and read the article. Nice, as everyone has described. Big takeaway for me is Brian's pronouncement that he can't write a new song to save his soul

Hasn't that been a much-repeated phrase over the last +15 years? For some time he used the term "writer's block". I'm not saying he doesn't feel that way. Or that he used to be more prolific and consistent 50 years ago. But I wouldn't read it literally.

It's writers block compared to the four album a year machine he was in the 1960s.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Brian has given us in song every range of emotion that he posses in his body, at 73 I feel like he has nothing left to prove to any one. To be honest, I think it might be time for Brian to hang up the plaid shirt and sweat pants, and let him enjoy the rest of his life with out the pressure of feeling like he has to write another good song. I'm sure he won't ever retire from writing music, but I sure wouldn't mind if he did if not for his own enjoyment. I just hope Brian doesn't feel like he has to write that one last great song, the man has given me a lifetime sound track immortalized in harmony.

Brian is a competitive guy, deep down. I mean, look at what he's continued to do despite all the obstacles.
He gripes about songwriting all the time, but he managed to write some new stuff for NPP, so I doubt it's dire. Plus, I'm pretty sure someone will give him a new record deal based on the L&M movie alone ...

I wish the writer would have explained why he is known to walk across the court during the middle of his son's basketball games - to get to the concession stand? Restroom? Pep talk to Dylan?
What a great article. I don't know who Jason Fine is, but what a treat to be able to hang out with Brian and get an inside look into his everyday life. Brian certainly felt comfortable around him and seemed cool and relaxed.

Jason Fine wrote the RS article on the C50 reunion and is co-writing Brian's autobiography.

That part struck me too, and it made me wonder how enthusiastic (if at all) Murry got over Brian's high school sports activities.

Question about Jason Fine and the forthcoming I AM BRIAN WILSON biography. Brian recently mentioned that they 'had some guy writing it but he crapped out and now they have someone else helping him (Brian) write it', I'm paraphrasing. Is Jason Fine still the guy writing I AM BRIAN WILSON or do we not really know?
I presume since he continues to pen articles and interview BW that means "yes".
