I got a Ticketmaster alert today - Brian is doing a concert on Friday 11/13 at the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, MI.  Tix go on sale Friday 8/21 at 10 am Eastern time.
Thanks for the heads up...wish I had longer to decide whether to bite the bullet and do VIP.

Does anyone know if they put restrictions on what Brian and Al will sign?

From what I understand, automobiles, lawn tractors and drones are disqualified as are any myKe luHv solo albums.  Cheesy

Come on OSD, you can have Brian and Al sign your copy of Looking Back With Love. Consider it an exorcism, if you will.

My fault, I guess I should have been more specific. At the NPP signings, he restricted signing instruments. I'm tempted to pickup a Fender/Squier White Precision Bass.

It would seem obvious that between Sept. 11th and Oct. 9th Brian would bring play his way across the country from one coast to the other, literally. But in Beach Boys world...who knows....besides, that would give approximately about 3-6 weeks for tickets to sell.

As I've probably mentioned before, when I saw a few Sep/Oct dates pop up, I wondered if we might see a relatively "full" tour materialize around those dates. But I think it's unlikely at this stage. Certainly, I don't envision a strong likelihood of more September dates being announced as that would indeed not provide much time to sell tickets (as I recall, that "TLOS" date he did in 2008 in Oakland, CA that was notoriously poorly attended was due in large part to the show on going on sale *very* close to the show date).

I'm kind of curious how and why these random October/November dates are being booked. I can't complain of course; any additional chance to see Brian and Al (and Blondie on at least some dates) is awesome.

The September San Francisco gig was booked before the UK tour was called off, so I always assumed that one was a warm-up gig for the UK in addition to being a sort of fancy venue for a specific concert series (The "Great American Songbook" if I'm remembering the name correctly). So that seemed like a logical "one-off" gig.

Perhaps they really are just taking a few concert bookings here and there as in 2014, just gigs where promoters offer a good deal, and then it keeps Brian active and out there. I just figured since they're schlepping out to these concert dates, they would have tried to pursue some additional bookings to fill in some of the gaps.

Also, does anybody know if Blondie slated to appear at the October shows?

FWIW, it doesn't look like Darian will be at any of the fall shows - he's touring with The Zombies at the same time:

It'll be interesting to see if he still makes the September SF date, as that one doesn't conflict with the Zombies schedule from what I can tell.

Past indications, though we have little to go on, is that the setlist doesn't tend to get *more* interesting when Darian isn't there. But I remain hopeful.

Wonder who might fill the spot in the band. I suppose Billy Hinsche or Gary Griffin might be the most likely candidates.

Since the Zombies tour ends 10/27, I hope Darian will be at the New Buffalo show.

I just bought tickets through a pre-sale offer for a Brian and Al show at the Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC on November 19.  Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday.  Judging by the seating chart on Ticketmaster, probably 1/3 - 1/2 of the tickets are already spoken for - but it is a very small venue (less than 1500 seats, IIRC).  It hasn't been announced on Facebook or Brian's website; I only happened across it as I subscribe to their email list for other events.

I don’t have any specific info for this particular show (thanks for filling us in on the new date by the way), but I know in the past that “pre-sales” usually only have a portion of seats set aside specifically for the pre-sale. So it’s possible that what appear to be already-sold seats are actually seats that haven’t been sold yet that are not available to purchase during the pre-sale. I think venues do this, especially for super popular shows, to keep the show from potentially selling out before they even hit the actual general on-sale date.

That’s why pre-sales are always a crap shoot, and I’ve done them several times (I think I did that for the C50 tour if I’m recalling correctly). You have an early shot at seats and have less “competition” to buy seats, but you also have a smaller pool of seats to pull from. So when the general sale takes place, there are probably some “better” seats available, but way more competition and a chance at scoring either better or worse seats than what you’d get in a pre-sale.

I would love to see photos. I ended up buying the "Ultimate VIP Package" for the New Buffalo show on November 13. Based on a few e-mail replies from members on this board, I feel comfortable that there are no restrictions on bringing guitars to be signed. I'm leaning towards either purchasing a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Electric Guitar in Olympic White ($300) or Fender Standard Stratocaster in Arctic White ($500).

Again, for those who have done the VIP meet and greet, please chime in if there were restrictions on bringing guitars. Also, would love to hear feedback on if I should go with the Jaguar or Strat.

That's how Brian's schedule should be from now on. A couple of dates well spread out, nothing too heavy.

If that's what Brian wants and needs to do, I'm cool with it. Sporadic dates don't mesh well with evolving setlists or out of the blue rarities, though. Doesn't mean we won't get anything new and interesting, but one-offs (or strings of two or three shows) tend to lead to more of the "meat and potatoes" numbers. It also leads to increased likelihood of having band members not being available. Seriously, I'm cool with what Brian needs and am happy to see any dates. But there are pros and cons for both the band/organization and fans.

I bought tickets, because, beyond all the obvious reasons, it’s still rare relative to Brian’s touring career as a whole to see Al and Blondie there, and also because regardless of when or if Brian retires, I’m probably not going to get 10 or even 5 more chances to see Brian in the Bay Area.

But they’re doing themselves no favors with the pricing on this show. I know the market is one of the more expensive markets in the country as far as ticket prices (the June Saratoga show was on the high end of prices for the tour as well), but the price breakdown for the SF show is: $175/135/100/75/50, and pretty much everything on the floor is $135 or higher (there might be some outskirt sections on the floor at cheaper prices). This is just for tickets. I don’t think they’re even offering VIP packages for this show.

I paid more for this show than the C50 tour. I’m not saying the show isn’t worth it. I probably would have found some way to stretch things and buy tickets even if it was a little more expensive. But this kind of pricing leads to more casual fans skipping it. Too expensive. He also is doing this show less than three months after playing in the same market, at a show that was nearly but not quite a full sellout. I think Davies Symphony Hall actually seats at least 500 more than the Mountain Winery in Saratoga (around 2700 versus 2200, all approximate of course).

A similar thing happened in 2008 at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, which was poorly attended in part due to Brian having done two shows (with Al, who wasn’t on the 2008 tour) in the Bay Area in 2007. That 2008 gig had other problems, including going on sale *very late* compared to most shows.

I’m not trying to be naysayer. I’m beyond stoked to get a second chance to see Brian, Al, and Blondie, less than three months after seeing them in June. If they do the same setlist, even that will be amazing. But objectively, I’m not surprised it isn’t selling out. Brian *can* do it; when I saw Brian at this same venue, Davies Symphony Hall, in 2004 on the “Smile” tour, it seemed like a hugely hot ticket with numerous people out in front of the venue trying to *buy* tickets, not sell them!

That's been the price breakdown pretty much every time I've seen BW (or the C50 tour) in the past decade, and I've seen him in multiple markets.

Not sure if you've been getting some special deal on tickets or what.

I've seen Brian at least ten times, and I've surely collectively spent a few grand on it. I know it's worth it. Doesn't mean they have to charge that much, and even setting aside what I or any hardcore fan knows and is willing to pay for, I'm simply saying that as an observer, I can see why ticket sales get slower and slower when the ticket price goes that high.

Look at, for instance, the 10/10 gig. The price breakdown is 85/45/35. HUGE difference. The 10/24 gig gets more expensive, but still cheaper than SF: It's priced at 100/80/70/60.

I also understand that venues vary, and I'll be seeing a show a nice indoor theater, Davies Symphony Hall, and understandably some casino gigs are going to be cheaper for a bunch of reasons.

Like I said, I'd probably have paid *even more* than what I did for the SF show. But I'm not surprised one of the more expensive tickets on any Brian gig in recent memory is having some slow sales.

Not sure if you've been getting some special deal on tickets or what.

I'd have to go back and look at all my old stubs. It's been pretty consistent in the Bay Area in the 2010's, but my recollection has been that when I check other gigs on the same tour in question, many of the gigs have a lower top tier price. For instance, the only thing I can find above $175 face value among the current 2015 BW shows are luxury box-type seats for the NC show.

I think tickets for BW tours tended to be markedly cheaper in his first five or six years of touring. My ticket for the 2004 Smile tour at Davies Symphony Hall was $65.50. I've, by happenstance, managed to get nearly identical tickets in 2015 at the same venue, and the ticket is $135. A rough inflation adjustment shows that $65.50 is worth about $82.75 in 2015. So there's still something like a 60% markup even after factoring in inflation.

I only shows I've paid over $100 face value (and I usually go for best seats, or maybe one tier below in some cases) for three four BW-related shows, and they're all post-2011.

I suppose my general point is simply that the SF show is on the high end of what BW can charge, and he played the same market less than three months prior (and the time between his first show in the Bay Area taking place, and the second show in SF going on sale, was only maybe 6 or 7 weeks, which is something that potential ticket buyers might factor in as well), so slow sales are not surprising.

Here's the price spread I could find on the currently scheduled Brian dates:

9/11 - San Francisco - 175/135/100/75/50
10/9 - Kupferberg Center - 89-39 (they only list a range right now)
10/10 - Salamanca, NY -  85/45/35
10/23 - Easton, PA - 85/76/62
10/24 - Atlantic City - 100/80/70/60
11/13 - New Buffalo, MI - 125/95/75/55
11/19 - Durham, NC - 255/202/137/97/77/57 (the two top tiers are "Legacy Box" and "Pit Seating")
11/21 - Englewood, NJ - 254/129/99/79/69/49 (the top tier is "Platinum Orchestra")

The two shows are comparable to SF, and arguably more expensive (I sense "Legacy Box" is sort of a fancy seating level SF doesn't have, but dunno), everything else is cheaper. I'm not forwarding any theory that Bay Area shows are always the most expensive. But I think there is probably a corollary between the ticket price in SF and potentially slow sales, in addition to the other factors I've mentioned.

Also worth keeping in mind is that Brian may make more money selling 50% or 75% of a venue at high end prices than cutting the prices in half and still not selling out.
