Seems like Funky Pretty is out of the picture for now.

Hard to say, but you're probably right. At least we've gotten "California Saga" and "Girl Don't Tell Me" in there..would have been nice for "Drive-In" to stick around. I don't really care for Brian doing the straight up hit car songs...it just doesn't really seem to be him. But "Drive-In" just digs a little bit deeper! Also glad to see "Runaway Dancer" out of there...

Have I missed something, did they really play Ding Dang in a soundcheck!? That's super cool!

Seems like Funky Pretty is out of the picture for now.

as it hasn't been played in any of the shows yet, it doesn't appear to have ever been in the picture.

Why are you talking about McCartney in a thread about Brian's current tour. Why not start a new thread and let the negativity begin.

Thank you. I'm a fan of McCartney, but this is a thread about the current tour of the greatest songwriter on the planet. Let's please keep it that way.

Why draw the line now? Why THIS thread?
The beauty of Smiley is every thread digresses into 7 other threads; right?

True, but this one is about Brian's current tour, and I'd rather just about any other thread get derailed before this one.

If you'd paid attention to the thread, you would know that they worked on it in sound check at least a couple of times. A band member also confirmed to me personally that they were planning to add it.

I've, sadly, read every single post in this thread, no matter how bored I got; and I repeat, it hasn't been played in concert once, so....

You're both right! The back and forths on this board are ridiculous.

It hasn't been played in concert. It has been rehearsed and soundchecked (is that a word?)

Anything is possible...I think there's still a chance of hearing it if they're still making additions this late in the tour.

What I'm more curious abotu than songs...is future dates! I've seen San Francisco on Sept. 11th advertised...anything else out there I've missed? I'd love to  catch this since they skipped MD/DC this time 'round...as usual.

I'm curious if more US shows will be announced for the fall. Considering it's already July, that doesn't leave a whole lot of time ticket sales.

I may be the only one but I'm sad to see Runaway Dancer leave the setlist. I think it has a strong melody and great energy. It was one of my favorite performances at the Atlanta show.

Yes, yes. That's the exact reason.

There's nothing to disagree about. The band rehearsed Funky Pretty. That's a fact. They were planning to include it in shows. That's a fact. So the song was in the picture -- especially given that seats at soundcheck are now sold to paying customers.

People paid to go to a Brian Wilson show. They heard the band play the song. Ergo it was in the picture. Then the band stopped playing it, and people stopped hearing it. And thus it was out of the picture.

The only reason someone would attempt to take issue with such self-evident facts is because he or she is trying to start something. It would be comical if it weren't so infuriating.

On that note, lighten up.

I'd say a song that is seriously rehearsed at a soundcheck, with or without an audience, can be characterized as "in the picture" at that point.

The two of you must be checking out different picture books from me, then.
I haven't seen any evidence that every song played in soundchecks ends up being played in concert.
If you have some definitive evidence of same, please present it now.
Otherwise, I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree.
BUT, if we're to come to blows, Wirestone, will you be claiming  the Cassius or the the Sonny trunks?

Yes. It is.

I hate to derail the thread, maybe start a new one? I am curious to what leads you to think this though.

He's out there playing his songs, the way he wrote them, from his past and present still in (for the most part) great voice...just like Brian.

Word.  Mostly (if not always?) in the original keys too.  Everything from "Yesterday" to "Helter Skelter" and everything in between.

To me, "in the picture" as a setlist inclusion means it's a possibility, not that it's guaranteed. If a song had already been performed in concert, I wouldn't characterize it as "in the picture"; I would just say it has already been performed.

To me, "not even in the picture" connotes something that is nothing more than a pie in the sky wish or guess, not something the band is in the process of demonstrably considering.

Blondie photobomb! Apropo of nothing, here's a text from my friend who'd just seen the show here in Phila, Monday night:

Blondie Chaplin should stay home though. What a jackass. He's noisy, out of sync with the group and the vibe, and acts all goofy with body language like the whole thing is a joke. About 10 times he mentioned he used to be in the Rolling Stones band. He should go back to the stones. I'd have preferred john stamos.

 LOL
Blondie did not mention The Stones, but was intro'd as having been with them for 10 years.  They did what I'd call an "extended jam" at the close of WH that was fantastic.  Paul von Mertens had to tell the audience, "Boston, get up off your asses!" Game over.

WIBN: who is singing lead? that's Al's song live, but he he only singing his small studio part. . . .what is happening. Is this becoming a BB covers band? DWB: with Jeff gone, I want Brian to sing it. . .

Matt sings WIBN (with BW on the bridge) and DWB.

When I saw the Beach Boys in 1997, Matt sang Don't Worry Baby as well.

Darian sings This Whole World (again, with Brian on the bridge) and Darlin'.

That's four songs of a 32-song setlist. The rest are done by Brian, Al and Blondie.

I'm in my seat for the show in Detroit tonight. I saw Scott Bennett outside the venue and he was a little hoarse and said he was battling a cold. He said he hoped he didn't pass it to Brian...I hope he's joking.

BTW, Fox Theatre in Detroit is absolutely beautiful. I'll give a fuller report tomorrow.

I wouldn't joke about that. Scott was definitely hoarse, not sure if he was joking about Brian. I'm sure there is concern any time someone in the band is under the weather. I'll let you know how he sounds tonight.
